Somebody just shoot me now...

Before I start, let me say this:

I COME IN PEACE!

Having said that, here I kinda agree with seryn, although I can see why rallem would make his statement about DK and Spidey3.

On the surface DK did appear to have a truckload of baddies to choose from. BTW Spidey3 had a truckload of problems aside from too many bad guys - it did seem that there was too much going on in that one and Peter Parker's mood swings was horribly done.

But back to DK and Ironman, both were great in their own right, but I think its apples and oranges.
Ironman, for one thing, was Robert Downey's movie from the word "go". It was a fantastic ride in every way, it was a fun (what I call) "popcorn" movie that was thoroughly entertaining. It felt like a rollercoaster ride that you wanted to get on over and over again. Nothing wrong with that.
BTW I'm getting the DVD as soon as.

The Dark Knight was slightly better, again, I think, because for me it had a great story that was told in a dramatic fashion. I love the treatment that Chris Nolan has given to my hero from my youth The Batman. There was very little in the way of overblown special effects and much was devoted to plot development, story and character development. We got that in Ironman to some degree, but again, the tone was vastly different from that of DK. Think of the tone in Serenity and then compare it to Firefly, both good storytelling, but vastly different tones.

The baddies in Spidey3 were never really fully fleshed out, except of course for GG's son from the previous 2 movies, but the DK baddies were there to drive the story along. The true baddie in this movie was The Joker, the others were there to show just how "badass" the Joker was. Heath Ledger's perf also made this an interesting character, but to me it was how the plot unfolded that made this movie extremely enjoying. Never did I feel that I knew what was coming next. Oh sure we know that Batman must live, but the question is how?

You can't really count Harvey Dent's alter ego, Two-Face as a baddie because, and this too I loved, this was an ordinary guy thrust into an extraordinary situation. He got half his face melted, you'd be a little pissed to, and he lost the woman that he loved. Also we know, from the story, that this guy is a gung-ho law & order guy get-the-job-done-come-hell-or-high-water. So he's not a true baddie in the typical sense, just a really pissed-off guy with Halloween mask issues.

BTW all the male actors in the DK were solid in their perfs, but Heath Ledger was absolutely riveting as The Joker. He does deserve the Oscar, not because of his untimely and tragic death, but I dare say, of the movies I've seen, that his was head and shoulders above the rest. Special mention should go to Aaron Eckhart as Two-Face. I could really feel his anguish when he became Two-Face.

I loved both movies for different reasons.

Not to beat a dead horse, but I saw huge lines in the theatre when I went to see Appaloosa for BHC.

Family movies tend to do well, mainly because there's such a dirth of them, and especially when they are somewhat well written, and/or cute (see The Chipmunks).

Plus you have JLC (Jamie Lee Curtis) who was great in Freaky Friday (yes, shoot me now I saw it and loved it). So there's a lot going for it.

But come on guys, a "dumb" dog movie over our beloved BDH. If there is any justice in the world we will get our BDS!

Why all this outrage at BHC? For what it is, it's an incredibly well-written movie, and even judged OUTSIDE family fare, it's a very solid script. While that may not make it "as good" as Serenity, it's much better than a lot of the other movies I've seen this year.

Were I Crowe and DeCraprio, I'd be more upset about being pushed to #3 by QUARANTINE. I haven't seen it, but have heard that it's pretty weak tea. Anyone care to be angered my that?

I saw Quarantine this weekend rather than Body of Lies, even though I do plan on seeing Body of Lies later. For what is was, Quarantine was great. It was a great Halloween time movie. It was fun to be in a theater full of people as we all yelled at the screen, people screamed, they clapped for the hero, and a general tension filled the room. I was highly entertained.

I'm just surprised that with all it's big names, Body of Lies couldn't beat out a movie about dogs.

There is a simple reason family films make money and it has nothing to do with quality. If junior wants to see the movie then the whole family will be going. So we're talking between 3 and 5 tickets on average. On the other hand a PG13 or R rated will not draw in entire families. So even if the latter are quality films you won't be getting as many people per household in the theater. As much as I despise family films they are a money making machine.
