I don't get it - story doesn't make sense

Okay, so this is about the episode last week. If anybody not has seen it yet, please don't scroll down.

Okay, here is where I'm fuzzy. I always wondered, why Lindsey came back to kill Angel (I love Christian Kane, but it was kinda strange). So in last weeks episode we got an explanation - he tried to get into the Black Thorn by killing Angel. I have 2 Problems with that story:

- the Senior Partners WANT ANGEL ALIVE. Why did Lindsey think he would be in favor with them killing Angel? And obviously he got badly punished by them once he was not longer hidden.
- Why would Lindsey want to be in favor with the Senior Partners anyway? When he left W&H, he had his fallout with them and had to hide from them, so how come he has that sudden change of mind?

What do you guys think?

1) Perhaps he theorizes that Angel is no longer needed if he can put another vampire-with-a-soul in his place. Remember how he buddied up to Spike?

2) My thought is that he never found what he was looking for when he left. He came back because the Senior Partners ran the only game that truely interested him.

Spike was trapped in that amulet, but the amulet was meant for Angel.

Lindsay's plan was to control Angel, bring him to the partners on a silver platter, and get rid of the do-gooders. HE wanted to be running W&H... he had an odd sense of justice.

Remember, he thought if he was gonna die, it was gonna be Angel that did it.

Also, Lindsay was a big macho dumbass.
