MAL: This is my scrap of nowhere. You go on and find your own.
SAFFRON: You can't just leave me here, on this
lifeless piece of crap moon...
MAL: Sure I can.
SAFFRON: I'll die.
MAL: Well, as a courtesy, you might start
getting busy on that, cause all this chatter ain't doin' me any kindness.

I got them the DVD for a present and they've watched it at least 3 times the whole way through. Having recently been converted myself no more than 4 weeks ago I'm still working on getting the word out to as many ppl as possible. Keep spreading the word Browncoats, this story will be told!

Welcome to the board Jmduke. Glad to have you w/ us.

Your advise on spreading the word & converting all we can is good and something many of us have been saying since the DVD set came out back in December.

Personally, I have converted eight people. I am still working on several, and am always looking for a way to work the show into conversation to pitch it to other people.

am a little embaressed by my conversion quota. I have tried, honestly. I just can't figure out what I am doing wrong.

For my first attempt I lent my recordings, of scifi's first four episodes, to one of my husbands work colleagues. The next day he telephoned work, told them where to stick their job and has never been seen since. I haven't seen my video since either . I have always wondered whether his resigning was related to watching Firefly.

The next attempt was when someone came to visit. I set up the dvd and some snacks/drinks all ready for when he arrived. Unfortunately he got stuck in traffic and arrived two hours late. I had been unable to resist both the snacks/drinks and Firefly for that long . Undeterred the next day I put Serenity on again. After twenty minutes he let out a yawn, said he was tired and went back to bed . I persisted by putting a different episode on that evening, but he announced he had made arrangements to see someone and left.

My third attempt was a get together at a friends house. I decided to hijack the event and turn it into a Firefly conversion party. I managed to get everyone infront of the tv and put on Serenity. After ten minutes someone suggested a visit to the pub and there was a mass exodus from the room .

I then downloaded five of the episodes and posted them to my brother. He loved it, as did his flatmate. However, being poor studenty types they can't afford to buy the dvd (though they can afford to go out drinking and clubbing every night) .

I really don't know where I am going wrong. I feel I am doing more harm than good. If y'all insist I hand in my coat I shall understand.

Seems you have run into some brickwalls Wren, but keep trying. Doing the impossible makes us mighty!

I have found the best way to convert people is to approach the subject in a casual sort of way. Have your prospective convert (or converts) come over for a drink, dinner, or what have you. When you are relaxing in the living room, ask them if they care to watch a movie. If they say yes, pop in "Serenity". While you are setting it up, tell them a bit about how much you like the show and how a movie is in the works. This should pique their interest enough to get them to watch the show.

"May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one."

My husband converted me, but he is not a true fan himself. Does that seem right to you?

I have converted 2 and interested many, many people. I have my next convert in my sites.

I also count my two children (aged 7) -- who are not yet allowed to watch Firefly. I let them watch a few snippets of the DVD, but the actual show has content that is not appropriate for their age. They love Firefly, what they have seen of it, and can't wait for the rite of passage that will be their chance to actually see a whole show.

Well, I've just had it confirmed that I've gotten at least two people to buy the DVD's based on playing in my Neverwinter Nights Firefly module. Both those people have really enjoyed the DVD's (of course!).

I've also had at least two other people who played in the module claim they're going to buy the set.

That's one of my goals in the Neverwinter Nights project: a guerilla campaign concept of finding converts in the roleplaying (Neverwinter Nights, mostly) community, and even getting THOSE people to run their OWN Firefly games, thereby spreading it further...muahahaha!

OK, I'm one of Forrestwolf's NWN convertees...and I have not successfully converted my wife. I will then convert my dad-in-law, and a couple of people at work. Oh, and I am gamemastering Firefly in NWN, so I hope to get a few that way too.

I'm reviving this thread because one of my 'conversions' (I got my big brother hooked) just got a conversion (he has gotten his visiting college aged daughter totally hooked).

Only down side? My wonderful niece does NOT appreciate the underlying sweetness that is Jayne Cobb! How can I show her the error of her ways?

I keep buying more of the DVDs, people are getting them for birthdays, house warming gifts, wedding presents...
I will not stop!

let's see...*think think think*

i'm up to at least 9...of which at least 1 has converted at least 2 of their friends

if we keep this up, those superior alliance numbers won't matter anymore

Well, I myself am a convert. My mom was into it and had all the episodes downloaded. She's into all kinds of sci-fi/cult stuff. Most of her attempts to get me into a show just don't work, but for some reason I gave Firefly a shot, and I'm very glad I did.

I myself have converted 4 people to date. My bestfriend watched Serenity with me and liked it, but I haven't had a chance to show him anymore episodes. I'm a bit more protective of my DVD set than most. Don't want to let it out of my site! I have 2 more lined up that I know will love it, and a few interested at my office. the count WILL rise.

My real coup was converting my dad. While he's also a big SF fan, out tastes rarely ever overlap. He then borrowed my DVD set and used it to convert a co-worker, I think I'm entitled to at least half-credit on that one.

I also turned on two friends of mine, who've yet to return my DVDs.

Hey, Forrestwolf... sorry if I missed it someplace, but is your module available for download anywhere? I'd be interested to see it.

There's no such thing as a free lunch, but you can get a free breakfast at any major hotel chain in America!
