I'm the guy that's been telling people that there is an entire database of every single cell phone call ever made since they were 10 lb bricks you carried around in a breifcase. And if I believe that is true, why would emails and text messages which are infinately smaller not be saved as well?
You guys in Benny Hill land are just as advanced as us and your Government is just as corrupt as ours. Sometimes I wonder if the real strings are being pulled here or there (or even on some remote Island inhabited by Dr. Wiley)
My only solace is, even with any wrongdoings I may have done and communicated in a way that it's in a database somewhere, this technology will take a while to fully implement and persecute with and I'm just frankly not that interesting of a person. Plenty of higher profile idiots to send the Men in Black after first.

The major difference between here and there, is that the British Government is technically beholden to the British Government. Democracy and the like was largely grafted on to the existing medieval structures, since the English Civil War that removed the Monarchy from executive power came prior to the primacy of Western Enlightenment, British Governmental Enlightenment principles aren't as codified as those of most of mainland Europe's, whose revolutions came later, or the US's whose first government was founded on them. Beyond a few promises and act of tradition there's no defense of civil liberties built into the British parliament, it just seems to work somehow (though admittedly rather less well recently).
The US on the other hand is built on the concept of protection of civil liberties, so promptly the Government seems to constantly want to undermine them, and the moment it manages to do so in law, it does so in practice. It's weird. Maybe it's because we have an ickle grandma as head of state? Can't get much of a fascist state running when your figure head is a frail granny with toy dogs and a desire for a cup of tea.
