Losing 117 to 104 at tvtally. If only those Rangers would turn their cookies on when they voted, we would have a shot.

Meanwhile, we pull ahead at weekinwhedon, only 988 behind now. Angel fans only voted twice, compared to 12 for us. Every vote counts in these little contests.

Same thing at BBC, where only nine votes were cast in the last 24 hours, but most were for us. Nearly half, however, were apparently for Star Wars. That's disturbin.

2001 still ahead of us at space.com.

Okay people I need you help, well its a group I support that can use your help. They rescue big cats and give them a good home to live out their lives. Most of them have been mistreated, in shows and circus's. All you have to do is click and vote for them,...no register, nothing.

They are THE WILD ANIMAL SANCTUARY....about half way down on the list. Please check and vote once, the charities will get $2 for each vote...please take a minute and vote. They could really use the money, donations are down because of the economy.

Excellent resource, with an emphasis on senior and retirement needs (i.e., everybody's long-term needs). Focuses on economical living, a plus for anybody who's serious about living in the islands.

An omnibus of info about the Big Island, including historical, geophysical, socioeconomic, and other issues, as well as the touristy stuff which many residents don't even know exist, despite the fact that so much of it is cheap or free.

Hawaii The Big Island Revealed - Andrew Doughty

Primarily a tourist guide, this is one of a series on the islands by the same author, and a great resource for lodgings, recreation, food, all that kine stuff. Be aware that /some/ of the advice is opinion; we discovered that advice given in the O'ahu book NOT to take guided tours was simply wrong; sure, we could've saved a few bucks, but we sure woulda missed out on the value of experiences like the Pearl Harbor and USS Missouri tours, had we not had a professional guide to smooth the way, as well as to tell us about what we were seeing.

Nonetheless, beautiful graphics and maps make this an appealing, as well as useful guide.

I may have a few others, but I'll have to dig 'em up. Also, be sure to Google for the cheapest sources of these titles; the missus and I got most of not all of 'em at Amazon.com on the cheap!

Well, Kona side is more expensive, overall, though you should be able to find affordable lodgings, assuming you don't absolutely have to be on the beach. Really, it depends most on what you want to see and do. Kona is more cosmopolitan and "touristy;" you can see a lot of what there is to see on a single day's drive (Ka lae/South Point, Punalu'u Black Sand beach, Pu'uhonua o Honaunau/City of Refuge, and dinner and shopping in Kona) from the Hilo side, which is what we did.

The Hilo side is much cheaper, and the weather is really not that big an issue, relative to Kona's sometimes hot and dry weather. The Hilo side, by my way of thinking, makes a better base of operations, with a lot more to see nearby (Volcanoes Nat'l Park is at least a one-day visit, and can easily be enjoyed over the span of the week-long pass you buy when you enter the Park; Cape Kumukahi is where you can breathe the purest air on the planet; Lava Tree State Monument has some beautiful, easy trails through the aftermath of a centuries-old lava flow; and up the Hamakua Coast, north of Hilo, are several wonderful beaches, botanical gardens and scenic waterfalls which are not as boring as they sound, as well as spectacular Waipi'o Valley!).

Really, the Hawaii The Big Island revealed book would serve you best. There is also plenty more that I haven't mentioned, mostly inland, like Parker Ranch, but it just depends on your tastes. Google some of the things I've mentioned, and see what appeals to you.

I'll be glad to answer any questions, so feel free to ask. One other thing; if you decide to stay on the Hilo side, it's worth looking for house rentals in Puna. You can get a whole house on a daily rental basis of less than what a hotel room can cost, and you'll still be within effective range of everything you'll want to see.

Well, sadly, the place the missus and I have stayed has gone to all long-term rentals (the owners are currently on the mainland, and I suspect that not handling short-term rentals simplifies things for them).

Ah, for the good old days of more than a thousand votes a day. Where have all the Browncoats gone? Yeah, I know that the TV vote was driven by hourly voting and alliances. But there were more than a hundred Browncoats involved as well.

BTW, the German translation in Firefly sucks big time. German Browncoats agree that it sounds much better in the original English (many, but not all, German Browncoats know English, to one degree or another.)

Well... Not gonna say anything just now about those 537 Angel votes (at one per day!), 'cept that's a lot more "individual" voters than ever balloted for Angel on TV Vote...

Our positive position on TV Tally vis a vis Jericho might be attributed to the fact that Flowerlady (remember her?) went off on a trip this morning, according to their voting thread. The failure of Miracles to break into the high numbers yet could be related. I wouldn't count on us holding our lead for long, though.

Just keep in mind: No mater what anybody else does, our victory comes from achieving what we do honestly. If we followed suit to try to get ahead of those who would do anything to stay ahead of us, the whole thing would become pointless.
