Got to be in the Pilot: Wash and his dinosaurs
"yes...yes...this is a fertile land" - has me in stitches every time

I always smile when this thread re-appears from the dead. I thank everyone who took the time to give thoughtful consideration, and to let others know their favorite scene.

Even though this scene is in BDM, its the entire scene, including the fight, when Mal first meets the Operative, starting from "Dear Buddah"...to..."It's just a flash bomb".

Fav part of that whole great scene is when the operative says he's unarmed and Mal says good and shoots him.

perfection.

I could easily pick one or two scenes out of EVERY episode... but since you're asking for one...

How about the pilot episode "Serenity"?

Mal: Comes time, someone's gonna have to deal with him. That sould be you. But I don't think you've got the guts... And I know you don't have the time.
Simon: What do you mean?
Mal: Kaylee's dead.
[Simon runs to the infirmary; sees Kaylee, quite alive; she waves at him]
Simon: [to himself] That man's psychotic.
[on bridge, Mal, Jayne, Zoë, and Wash are laughing histarically]
Wash: You are psychotic!
Mal: No! You shoulda seen his face. Oh, I'm a bad man.

Almost passed out laughing the first time I saw that scene... :)

Reason #1 that it's my favorite: The look on Kaylee's face when she sees Simon and waves... (she's just SO F#$%in' CUTE)

Reason #2: The reaction of Mal, Zoe, Wash and Jayne on the bridge...

Damn... Just thought of another favorite (besides all the great ones already mentioned)

the ending of OoG

Salesman: Yep... Real beauty ain't she? Yes sir! Right smart purchase, this vessel. I'll tell you what. You buy this ship... Treat her proper... She'll be with you for the rest of your life. Son? Hey! Son! You hear a word I been sayin'?

I suppose so.

going to burn in a very special level of hell.
A level they reserve for child molesters and
people who talk at the theater.

There's times I think you don't take me
seriously. I think that ought to change.
MAL
Do you think it's likely to?

JAYNE
You got something you don't deserve.

MAL
And it's brought me a galaxy of fun,
I'm here to tell ya.

JAYNE

And rest him then upon the sweat of her breast.

MAL
Whoa. Good bible.

SAFFRON
I'm not skilled, sir. Nor a pleasure to look upon --

MAL
Saffron, you're pleasing.
(sits down)
You're... yep, you're all kinds of pleasing,
and uh, it's-it's been a while -- a long damn while --
since anybody but me took ahold of my plow, so
don't think for a second that I ain't interested.

Out of Gas is my favourite episode. Not only do you learn about the history of the crew and the ship, but the cinematography and how they tell that story layered in the midst of a very tense life and death struggle is just incredible.

But favourite scene...

It's really hard for me to say, because every episode is a long string of good ones, all poignant, touching, powerful, heartbreaking, and laugh out loud funny.

So I'm going to bring the comic books into this discussion, simply to contribute something unique.

In Those Left Behind, I really enjoy the scene where Fed agent Dobson from the pilot episode shows up for revenge for his lost eye and ambushes Mal, Zoë, and Jayne. "Didn't you shoot this guy in the head, Mal?" "No, you moron, the pound of metal grafted to my face, it's purely cosmetic." And then, the crew does one of their amazing turn tables on their ambushers, Mal gets a gun... AND SHOOTS DOBSON'S OTHER EYE OUT.

That just kills me, it's just so... Mal. Badass hilarious is I suppose the best description, there really aren't words. It's not often you can look at a character and think, "What a son of a bitch!" with admiration, cracking up at the same time.

In Our Mrs. Reynolds.

Saffron: "I'm your wife."

That moment after when Mal blinks and manages to say, "buh-whuh-huh?" without uttering a peep.

That scene completely hooked me on the series and on Nathan Fillion.
