While we're on the subject (or rather, bringing us BACK to the subject) of mocking war injuries, I noticed no one on the right has expressed their outrage over Meghan McCain's on-air comments in which she claimed that

Isn't this deeply disrespectful of the tens of thousands of families of wounded and killed American military personnel? Does she think she has sole claim on knowing what loss and heartache are like, and those families know nothing of pain and loss?
Where's the "support" for our troops? Or don't they count?

That comment is indeed disrespectful and ignorant, Mike...
But who the hell cares? The person who made that comment is not germaine to the political debate. They're just someone's kid, and as I've stated before, I don't care what people's kids do. Whether they are getting pregnant, serving in Iraq, or talking smack, they are not the conduit by which I view my leaders.
But if she runs for office, I may re-examine my position.

"They're just someone's kid" - true enough, but she is actively campaigning for her father, and she wasn't being interviewed because she's just some kid.
Do I care what the candidates' kids do or say? Not until their family and the campaign puts them front and center in an attempt to use them to benefit their campaign - and then you have to take the good with the bad.

To answer your question, no. I don't think he needs working knowledge of the technology, merely conceptual knowledge.
I don't think the pres needs to know how to fly a plane or drive a tank, or handle a gun, in order to be Commander in Chief.
I do think he needs to understand what those devices do.
