Nathan Fillion cast in new ABC pilot

Am i the only one who thinks this sounds like utter crap? Nathan's an awesome actor and all, but even that won't save a programme that sounds this bad. And the pictures look so... perfect. Like too perfect. And they compare it to Moonlighting, which says it all. It's being made several decades too late.

Moonlighting was utter crap. That I will agree with. However, whoever compared it to Castle probably wasn't taking that into consideration at all. I'd say it was likely meant to appeal to the demographic that was attracted to Moonlighting - that being the less discriminate female 24-35 demographic who were probably attracted to the main character... um... what's his name, and actually liked the show. Hard to believe, I know, but they're out there.
But again, I haven't been keeping up with the media.
One thing about being a Firefly fan, you should know to not judge a series by its media, which is geared toward the bottom line, not quality. Had we all judged Firefly by its media, this site wouldn't even exist.
I would submit that utter crap is strictly in the eye of the beholder. I mean there are obviously people who like Desparate Housewives, right?

I watched the first episode of 'Heroes' even though it just seemed like a jazzed up X-men programme to me, and just didn't get what all the fuss was about.
I was just wondering if i was the only one who thinks Castle doesn't look that good. I'll give it a go, but if i don't like it, i won't keep watching it just because of Nathan. One good actor can never make up for bad writing and direction (See: Numb3rs).

Which is why i will watch anything by Joss Whedon without hearing a word about it. His writing and directing (and people he gets to write and direct his shows) are f*cking awesome.

I didn't fall for Firefly until "Our Mrs. Reynolds", which was the third episode aired when it was on TV. Had I based my opinion on "Train Job" or "Bushwacked" I would -NOT- have been back. At all. Train Job was imbalanced, and Bushwacked was...
You may need to start your own thread valuing the crap factor of the premise for Castle, just to see what people say. My advice would be to start it with a less inflamatory statement that doesn't imply that Nathan made a bad career choice. Start with the "Nathan is a great actor line" and then move on. That way you won't get smacked by the Nathan devotees around here - of which I am one. He hasn't left the wallpaper on my home computers or my laptop in three years.
Actually, start with "Nathan is a god." That will win them over. Then you can probably bash Castle all you want.

I'd never say Nathan made a bad career choice, if it's what he wants to do. And regardless of whether i end up liking Castle or not, i still wouldn't say no
I did have the advantage (/curse, depending on how you look at it) of first watching Firefly on dvd and was utterly won over instantly with the 'Serenity' pilot. I've given other shows a lot longer than 3 episodes; on some occasions it was more than worth it... on others, well, it's time i'll never get back. And there is at least one show (another that lasted only one series) i still haven't made my mind up on. I LOVE the idea of the show, the storylines are good, the characters have so much potential... but the acting is pretty bad and they needed better direction.
In conclusion, the world of television is a merky one. Who knows what you're going to get?

See, this is how "all paranoid and crotchety" you get when you're a veteran from the Throes of Cancellation. The difference between me and most others around here is that I don't hold Fox personally responsible for anything. I have maintained my love-hate relationship with all networks at large because all networks are evil. Every single one is responsible for cancelling or torturing a program that I loved at one time or another. Started with Man From Atlantis on NBC when I was 12. They replaced it with Dallas.
ABC made the mistake of airing Galactica 1980, which is the reverse of cancelling, but it tarnished the whole genre for decades.
I just dated myself, didn't I?
Lately I've become a bit of a hypocrit, because I would much rather watch TV on DVD. I'm done with wrestling with rescheduling, stupid commercials that I have memorized in the first 20 minutes, and all that malarky. Gimme my program, gorramit!

Product placement, yeah, of course. I did a Film & Media Studies degree. Films & tv programmes advertise more than just products, though. They advertise ideas, ways of life, opinions, fashion...
Advertising is everywhere. Only if you were a hermit would you never be exposed to advertising. And i have hermitage ambitions.
I'm already past jaded.
