Well stop being occupied. It's not good for the hidey thread when people have lives. Poor thing feels neglected. Then it gets low
self-esteem cause it keeps slipping down the page and no one notices it anymore.... so sad.

Called in to work saturday. Yesterday I was just too lame for words. Today I go to work again. Hard to say if I'll come back not cranky enough to be pleasant comoany. I want to be home... really I do. I have had coffee which makes me a bit on the crazy side, but very very quick.. which is how I am finishing a database, posting here, emailing, and doing a phoen conference all at the same time... wheeeeee

Ok so here's my question... are gerbils closer to mice or hampsters genetically??

Genetically I'm not sure. This chart http://www.ratbehavior.org/pet_rodent_classification.htm of the taxonomy shows them all diverging after Family Muridae. Taxonomy doesn't always track genetics though and wikipedia doesn't seem to agree with this chart http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamster which would put gerbils more comfortably close to mice than hampsters. Note the wikipedia page has some ver' cute pictures.

see I think it's the tails... mice and gerbils have the long thin tails and hampsters are tail-less..

When I was about 10 years old we had a little cage with 4 gerbils in it. We also lived on a farm and had several cats. Let's just say one day the cat decided to get really friendly with the gerbils and show them a magic trick.
Abracadabra and *Poof! They all disappeared.
