How did you discover Firefly?

You put it so well into words. As I read your intro to the 'verse I was taken by your description of what it feels like to discover something new and just awesomely good.

You are so right about the chemistry and comraderie - it is rare for any tv show. I watched this show from the beginning and not until I bought the dvd set did I fully "get" what I had on my hands. Great Post!

Read two previews in Total Film(UK movie mag) about Serenity in the months leading up to the release, thought it sounded interesting & something fresh compared to the latest Star Wars films. Read the reviews in all the mags saying how good it was, so when it was finally released in the UK I had already seen it. How?, well I was on holiday in the US the week it came out so I saw it a few days before the UK release since in the US it was out for 3 weeks already.

I thought it was a great movie, something unique, but not one of my favourite films. But when it came out on DVD I bought it & rewatched it but this time I thought it was amazing I dunno why but when I watched it the second time I just thought it was so gorram SHINY. I rewatched it another 6 times over the next few weeks till I remembered that it was based on a tv show. So I bought the tv show Firefly, watched it all in one week, though I postponed the last episode till the end of the week cause I knew that was the end & I'd probably never see anymore new episodes of Firefly again. It instantly became my favourite tv show & the same goes for Serenity as my favourite film.

My daughter, who is my movie buddy and an avid anime fan, heard about a movie called Serenity on one of the message boards she frequents.

She nagged me into going. I admit I was hesitant, thinking, "Oh no, she's dragging me to a horrible Sci Fi movie", even though I loved the original Star Trek, TNG and the original Star Wars movie. Hollywood doesn't have a good reputation with Sci Fi.

Sitting in the theater before the movie, some one around me mentioned that the movie was based on a TV series, and it was available on DVD.

The BDM blew me away,and that evening I ordered the DVD's from Amazon. The rest, as the say, is history.

Mal blowing Dobson away in the pilot as he strides up the ramp was my "Hey, this is totally awesome" moment though.

Heard the word "cannablism" from simon on safe when my dad was watching it and then watched it on sci-fi.

And I also watched from the beginning, I was already a big fan of Joss' BtVS (and a lesser fan of Angel), so I knew it was starting and I had it on my calendar....

I didn't love love the first (Train Job) episode, but I loved seeing Ron Glass and Adam Baldwin, since I knew and loved them....

I didn't fall head over heals in love with the show until Jaynestown, THAT episode met all my expectations and more!
But it was 'must see' TV for me from the beginning.

And 'must see' meant staying up through the Baseball games and phoning my local Fox affiliate asking them "will you be running 'firefly' AFTER the game? Okay then, after the stupid 'Friends' rerun?"
(getting to see all the aired episodes was a real challenge back then!)

I used to catch it on television. I have been waiting forever till I was able to buy it. I bought it two days ago and I love the three episodes that weren't aired. The gag reel isn't bad either.

I was a big fan of Dark Angel (wink at Chrisisall). When they cancelled DA for Firefly, I had to see what I was missing Max and Logan for. I was mildly entertained until Mal kicked the guy into the engine. Then I was hooked. I swore I would watch anything else this guy ever did, and found Buffy and Angel afterwards.

I still miss Dark Angel, but Firefly was worth it.
