One has to do with being possessed of natural glowy awesome,
which is Rose's case.
The other ways have to do with different
layers, filters, transparencies, and overlays,
which is how I do it.

Okay, non photoshop geeks can tune out at this point.
If I remember correctly, first I made a duplicate layer with a neon glow filter, for the blue tint, turned down the opacity on that, made another layer with a diffuse glow, turned down the opacity on that one, then did a third layer (these are all from the original photo) with a torn edges filter, and turned down opacity on that. I stacked them all up, did a stamp visible (shift, ctrl, alt, E) and hid the filter layers, then masked the knife out of the stamped layer. I blurred the 'torn edges' a little. Then I did a gradient map over it and masked out everything but my hair, so it had the brightness to it... I think there was another neon glow in there, and more stamping, and re-masking the knife so it was definitely coming through from the original photo, then stamping again, and I think I might have used the dodge tool on the blade to make it pop a little more. I think that's everything.
The exploding woman was basically a lot of lense flares on a lot of black backgrounds set to screen. And diffuse glow. I really like the diffuse glow filter, if you can't tell.

Oooohhhh, the first pic was diffuse glow and a curves adjustment. Heh, I barely even think of that as an effect anymore. Is that good or bad? You may say I'm a dreamer. But I'm not the only one.
