I think if I went to a convention like this and I hope to some day that I would want to dress up as either the sherrif in the "Train Job" or as the captain of the scrapping ship in "Out of Gas." Just my opinion, but I don't want to be like others and that is why I would like to belong to a purple belly club.

And if you want to make your own pants, I found the Laughing Moon California Pants pattern works very well. http://www.lafnmoon.com/california_pants.htm

I also used a brown ribbon for the side, but I sewed it on.

Nice job with the costume! Got a few ideas to add. First off, there are now cheap (respectively) replica browncoats on ebay. You can see one here:

Furthermore, I got a very cheap holster on ebay that looked really similar to Mal's (only ten bucks), but the problem was that it came without a belt. So, after searching for about two hours, i found this belt... it looks almost identical to mal's:

Lastly, i managed to get my pistol just a bit cheaper than normal on ebay... it was still pretty damn expensive though. Hope this helps.
