Hi.
Ever since 1994, when I discovered that my TV had a wonderful thing called "Closed Captioning", I usally leave it on by default.
NEWayz, on today's (right now's, actually) episode, "Out of Gas", the intro is different from the normal intro. It's spoken in first person, from Mal's perspective.
HOWEVER, the captions remained the same, as the OLD intro, the "keep flying" one.
Just a little tidbit.
Oooh, commercial's over... laters...

My tape starts after Mal begins speaking. He is hard to follow in a couple of places.
"...how it is. Earth got used up, so we terraformed a whole new galaxy."
....
"...some rich and flush with the new technologies; some, not so much.
"Central planets, them as formed the Alliance, waged war to bring everyone under their rule. A few idiots tried to fight it. Among them: myself.
"I'm Malcolm Reynolds, captain of 'Serenity.' Got a good crew: fighters, pilot, mechanic.
"We even picked up a preacher, and a bona fide Companion.
"There's a doctor too," ...
"genius sister" ...
"Alliance" ...
"keepin' a low profile.
"You got a job, we can do it. Don't much care what it is."
Please fill in the blanks.

In Out of Gas, the 5th aired episode, we get a bunch of backstory, except for practically nothing about River, and very little about Book - just funny monastery tales.
The last only thing we learn about Simon is his Birthday.
In this broadcast sequence, River just seems weird and creepy. Fire only reaffirms her premonition or precognition ability, which we already saw in Bushwhacked. Otherwise, we know so little about her - the focus of episodes seems tilted away from her, rather than a well-rounded and balanced distribution of focus.
As it turns out, this episode may have been the quickest turnaround - as little as 3 weeks between filming wrap and broadcast. Objects In Space may have been quicker, with 2 - 5 weeks possibly as turnaround.

Also, after Jayne in Jamestown, now Kaylee is seen getting some, albeit old news. So, Jayne and Kaylee are the non-married unregistered lucky few gotten lucky on or near Serenity.
