Well, I did ask. Sorry it's taken me so long to post a reply.
Nathan was doing a split Q&A session with Elizabeth Ann Allen (Amy/the Rat from Buffy). I asked him about the tat, and he said he got it when he was about 19, and he regretted it because given the chance he would rather be "clean" - doesn't have anything against tattoos, but just wishes he hadn't got his.
And he said it is an Egyptian hieroglyphic.
But when I asked what it represented, he passed it off as a joke and said it meant "Property of Elizabeth Ann Allen - we go way back!" So I got the feeling it was private and he didn't want to talk about it. Actually I got the feeling that he would rather I hadn't asked the question at all. So I felt a bit bad about that.
I have good photos of me with Nathan and also with Nathan, Summer and Jewel, if anyone would like to see them.
My t-shirt (my home-made 'I'll be in my bunk' t-shirt with pic of Mal and Jayne) was much admired by Jewel and Summer, but Nathan either didn't look, or diplomatically chose not to say anything!
I have to say all three of them were fantastic con guests and all said they were looking forward to coming back for the "Starfury: Serenity" con next year.

Oh, and as for the Starfury: White Room con in October this year, latest news says:

Interesting - I've seen a variation on that joke where he claims it says "property of Gina Torres." Guess Mr. Fillion is not above reusing jokes!

In response to the tatoo issue, thanks for letting me know what Nathan said about it and I'm sorry uyou felt bad about asking the question. Surely he's got to be aware that it's a possibility people are going to be curious. On the other hand, good to know what not to ask him if I ever meet him.
