I've heard around that some kind of Firefly MMORPG is going to be made by Multiverse. Does anybody have any information on this release or ideas about what could be in it or what they would find interesting,that they can share with their fellow browncoats.

It's kind of fizzled out. I was following it pretty close for a while, even thought I was going to be able to help with it, but there hasn't been anything at all in quite a while.

Firefly MMORPG delayed (canceled?)for a Buffy one. I think they're making a huge mistake. Firefly had a ton more growth potential than Buffy possibly could. Not sure what they're thinking.

I liked Buffy, but that story had one city, I don't see how they could grow beyond that without killing the story. Whereas Firefly there are multiple planets and factions offering huge room for growth of the game.

Let's hope it is just a delay.

I could write one if there was enough interest.
Give me some time, and let me know the interest level and if there's anyone else out there with some dev skills.

The Verse is far more well defined than it is explored, and so there's huge room for material.

Hmm. If Multiverse is only just changing a Firefly MMORPG for a Buffy MMORPG... I wonder if maybe they'll release some of the original Firefly coding as a sort of official mod.

My guess is that it doesn't exist.

Think about it. First, think about the multiverse engine. Then think about Buffy.

You have Torrence High, and then a street or two, and graveyards. It's really straightforward and simple, and not very big.

Now consider Firefly. As a dataset. Firstoff, even the ship itself, which is probably where they caved, is not neat symmetrical layout, full of curves and angles, etc. But passed that, the idea becomes insane.

The engine doesn't really look set up for spaceships either, aside from the interior which it could handle. Finally, there's the community issue. You can fill a virtual world with thousands of users, but you can't put them all on Serenity.

The newest ScifiNow magazine (with Eliza on the front) features some of Firefly-related stuff, including a nice report on the best merchandise, and it states that the Firefly MMORPG has been officially dropped in favor of a Buffy game.

Yeah, as I said, making the buffy world would be much easier. Not only is it small, but it's all very standard dimensionally. Also, they have a set 8 million user fanbase, vs. I'm reading around 600,000 firefly fans. Probably helped in no small part not only by being on for 10x as many eps, but by the Buffy RPG. Maybe we should start smaller. Firefly RPG.

Okay. I've talked myself into it, if anyone is interested. We can start collecting data and construct an unofficial firefly RPG. Anyone interested?
