In keeping with the theme, I love the little things a ton.

That and Little Things is also a song by Bush.

Little firsties?

Are guys the only ones being put under the microscope on these little or big things or do women need to be held to the same standards?

Edit: Zeek would also like to point out that women seem to be suggesting they like little things. Sounds like we've had this whole size matters thing backward guys.

I'd say its the little things. As an individual with not so much money...the little things are always there. Rich man that can buy gifts and so on but never does much else would be far worse than a poor man who could reassure you every day that he cares.

Unless the rich man was really old...and sick...then it might be woth taking a chance.

Zeek!

I don't know if women should be held to those standards or not, I suppose it would depend on the guy.

See big gesture is kind of by wrote as well...buy flowers, make reservations, etc

Little things are something someone noticed you needed or would appreciate ( like taking out the garbage or checking your oil to make sure it's ok) that say they are thinking of you and your well being and want you to be happy...

Grand gestures are romance and that's nice, but in my opinion, it's the little stuff that means love

Good morning Ponderers. Got my issue 3 of Better Days last night and I am as reluctant to read it as I was to watch the final disc of the BDS when I first saw it.

SO how is everyone this fine morning?

MsB, I'm not sure what you mean by me goin' with laconic in the last thread. That didn't really apply to the question or my answer.

Meh, I haven't gotten Better Days #2 or #3 yet. I'm behind.

I'd be careful Jimi. Seems #2 got me a slight bit misty and laughing at the same time. I'm sure #3 is going to be great.

Feelin' ya on that one Zeek. Seems I still have work to do outside, projects to finish inside, and I still have to walk the field from the shoot Sunday to check for lost equipment.

Hopefully Sunday I will get to lounge a bit.

Make a heating pad by filling a (clean) sock with rice and then microwaving it. Don't do it for too long, and stop it every few seconds to make sure that it isn't getting too hot. It makes a maleable heating pillow that lasts a long time, and to re-charge it, all you have to do is microwave it again.

EDIT: We posted this at almost the same time MsB.

does anyone know anything about cafepress? i wanted to make a browncoat design to put on the custom military caps they have, and the sample they show looks fine, but when i add my own image to preview it looks all funny :-\

Used them once. I was not impressed. I had a front and back image for the shirt I was making. They were similar but different and they failed to notice and printed the same image on front and back. So, I contacted them to get it fixed. They said they'd send a new one right away. I thought they lied then like a month later it finally showed up and they put it on a crappy quality t-shirt instead of the kind I ordered. Since it was for an event they way missed the boat by that point anyway.

So, yeah not a good experience.

The actual print of the image seemed fine though a little smaller than I expected. Took up less of the shirt space than I thought it would.

FLT it works like a charm and it's the best heating pad. Last hours and nit's re-usable and because of shape easy to wrap around neck, ankle etc

I buy from them all the time , but never put anything up... I suggest you PM artcat or zephyr both of them do cafepress:)

So I'm slow....about the thread topic, I always loved the line "nothing is trivial." Hence my agreement and not just in order to agree......

I think the site has sluggish moments that make me want to fetch a large caliber weapon. I have high speed cable etc so I'm pretty sure it's not that.......and my computer is practically a Cray (just kidding).

I think it may be a slow day seeing how many get Memorial day off.......speaking of-

Memorial day, for you dayshifters, remember....One Nation, One Moment. At 3 pm today remember those that have fallen with a moment of silence. No one wants to be forgotten.

Thanks FLT. I had a great time hanging out at home and doing as little as possible. Three days of that really felt good. Even went and saw Prince Caspian and was treated to a buffet dinner and a few hours discussion with an old friend and his woman. MSB seemed to have a great time too.

The conflict is probably not doing what I feel is an obligation this year. Ususally there is a strong sense of duty but I'd rather honor on my own time rather than to look good in front of everyone in my community.

Oh sure they have their uses, but sometimes ift feels like you are violating the spirit and intent of something by doing it for appearance sake.... like honoring the dead at memorial day ceremony vs. going out to the graves and placing flowers and showing respect on your own... both are valid activities, but if you're only going to the ceremony because you feel you have to because of what other people think... not so much honoring the spirit and purpose of the act

HUGS DTH..how have you been??

Hmm, little things verses big things? Avoiding for a moment the obvious innuendo (it's more difficult for me to do this than you will ever know!), I'd say that I have learned to accept the little guestures of appreciation as no guy I have even been close to has ever made a grand romantic statement or action without prompting. Not tarring all men as prosaic and emotionally oblivious. Just most!

No, that was the layman's explanation. The techno-babble one is that within all the wireless connections consisting of super-charged particles, there has been a buildup of non-charged particles that contain no information what-so-ever. So yeah, gunk.

I know, I came and went and then was seemingly gone again... just... so... busy.... year... almost... over... but.... not... quite.

But yeah, another few days and I'll be free of first year o' college and off to Burbank for awesome internship-ness at Cartoon Network. So assuming I actually study for my finals (like i'm not doing now), life is seeming pretty good. And I also recently made a ladyfriend, I don't know where that will go with summer coming and us not living in the same part of the state until next school year, but gotta love a woman who'll play scrabble online with you in the wee hours of the morning.

So I will come back, really. But for the moment, must... go... work... on essay... and then study for finals. That's The Plan.

Hope you all are well. :)

Not bad, not bad... well... ok, sort of bad, but I finished and sent in my essay, so that's done and done. So i'll be all finished by tuesday evening. Which is nice. But now I need to study for my two finals on tuesday, and I'm slacking off in post-essay euphoria right now. Sooner or later I'll get back on the studying horse.

Summer... yeah, admitedly I'll have aforementioned internship, but it's part time so I plan to leave tons of time to mess around, work on my writing and try to learn guitar. That's The Plan. But still, finals. Blah. Anyway.

I hear you about summer plans. I have soooo many things I would like to be doing right now if I had the time or energy - like finishing knitting Jayne hats for my nephews, finishing writing the fanfiction story I started two years ago, go chase snakes and then publish an article about how they're getting on, make jewellry from my snazzy new 'how to..' book, help out a friend on his ambitious proper flying 4ft scale model of Serenity project, finish my embroidery project of a signed framed picture of each of the BDHs (got most of the signatures but not finished the cross-stitches yet)..... and many many more projects whirling around my head.

You never know, I might actually finish something some day!

Any-one else got any interesting 'projects' on the go or on the drawing board?

Learning a guitar sounds like fun! What writing do you do Whitefall?

Well, the idea is screenwriting, that's why I'm at cartoon network and that's what I'd like to do as a career, thanks in no small part to firefly. Television, i mean. It's a good long-form medium, and I'm not as fond of books as people would think, since i'm an enlish major now. (Film at UCLA is a junior level major.) But since I decided on that path I really havent had the time (I have had the time, but... you know how it is, during the school year I get really distracted and... mind you distracted with stuff like class and homework. but yeah, it doesnt work out well.) so i need to work on stuff, just in general. short films if i want to pitch them to the film club, or television episodes if i want to practice that.

and guitar... no one forced me to an instrument from a young age, which makes me sad. i sing, but i want to take up something, and i have a guitar now, but likewise during the year i just dont have time (not to mention roommates) to whip it out and mess around. so hopefully summer will be better, with the internship being part-time and all. we shall see.

Ugh, i REALLY should be studying or sleeping. at present i'm doing neither. blah.

Hallo all. Apparently I also missed the down time. Stupid work.

Whitefall, did I totally miss when you moved down to UCLA? Either that or I've forgotten. I've been driving past there two or three times a week since January, and I was on the campus last December for the Nutcracker. Small world, eh?

Congrats on the internship at Cartoon Network. I used to have a few friends who worked over there, but it's been a couple of years. Part time is probably a good thing, but they will work you like a dog, I'm sure. :P

So how are you liking LA, anyway? The more time I spend in the city, the more I both hate it and love it. I don't think I'll ever be able to live anywhere else -- though my boss and my husband are making plans to start a vineyard in northern California in 10 years or so, lol. (I'll just sit over here and be techy. I'm sure the vineyard will need computers, right? Webpage? Stable wifi? Something? Right?? Hehe.)

Anyhow, I'm just stopping by to say hi. That job went to hell in a handbasket since the last time I was here -- they passed on me as Lead, despite the fact that I'd been doing the job (without the salary) for five months, and instead hired a guy who is 30 years older than me but has less than half my experience in this area, who likes to try to micro-manage me (this is not the boss mentioned above -- the woman I was reporting to before this little shift is still awesome and is still pissed off at the execs for passing on me, and I hope to work with her again on something).

So yeah, I'm going to make myself tough it out until the end of the month, because I'm a grown up and it's good for me not to cut-and-run every time things start going to shit. The loyalty I have to a couple of people there and this exercise in character building is about all I have left. The money is nice, but not really worth it at this point. :P

My health is doing ok, back on my diet pretty hardcore and it seems to be helping. That and the sunshine. I love summer in So Cal.

So where has everyone run off to, anyway??

Austin. You know we gots sunshine here too? Just sayin.

Good to hear about your health and way to go with sticking it out a bit at work. I feel the same sort of dedication to the people I work with. Not so much the management or the company, but I like the people I work with and I wouldn't want to leave them high and dry. (apparently low and wet is the preferred state of being) I was just telling one of my co-workers how if I won the lottery I wouldn't quit right away cause I know it would just hurt the co-workers that I like. So, I'd stick around to train a replacement and make a smoother transition.

At least it seems like I can actually reply today. Yesterday the site was being a pain again.

CK, do you want me to kill them for you? i can make it so they won't find the bodies...

I TOTALLY FIXED MY OWN CAR. the boyfriend (mechanic) pinpointed it as a computer problem, so we took it apart and found out that one of the resistors had gone *POP* and thats what was making it run weird >< so i looked at it and was like "...u know, i've unsoldered circuits before..i bet i could fix that if we had a soldering iron." so andy volunteered the soldering iron from his shop, we picked up some solder and the proper resistor (all have different values of course, gotta make sure u got the right one) and i successfully removed the burned one and installed the new one, and like magic my car works again ^_^ i's so proud of myself. *does a woodstock dance and blows through the roof* I'M OKAY!! ^_^

Yeah, it sucks, but I'm mostly over it. As I told my boss (the nice lady boss, not the stupid old guy they hired instead of me) recently, I'm bothered by all of it but I'm not willing the spend the energy to go from bothered to angry.

And no need to kill anyone. ;) They'll be reapin' what they've been sowin' pretty quick here. Also, the joy of being a contractor -- I've already pitched another project to a different company. It was very well received. Now I have to write it all up so we can get the artists working on it, so that we can start shopping it around to investors, so that these guys can pay me. Thankfully I don't actually have to stay with the crappy company until the good company can pay me. :P

So yeah, I'm doing ok with all the crappy work stuff. That said, it probably wasn't he best week to make 5 dozen peanut butter cookies for me and no one else...

Edited to add: FLT, that's awesome! Very very impressive.

Oh life is a strange thing for me right now. Because near as I can tell, just about everything is going good. (This may change tomorrow when I pack up everything and leave campus living until september, and move to Burbank temporarily, but still). Finals are done... I probably got a B in a few of my classes, but frankly I had a good enough GPA my first two college quarters that it was useful when I needed it, namely applying for internships. Even if my GPA suffers, my resume aint as empty no more. :)

CK, indeed you probably missed my announcement... uh... yeah, sometime last year when I said "woo i'm going to UCLA" and then I went there and stopped posting on here for a long while. :( But yeah, I know what you mean about the love-hate of this city, I mean it's nice, and its got all the cool stuff, but it's also dirty and nasty and angry. But what can ya do, tis where I do my schoolin'.

And MSB, that's the other thing that is going uncharacteristically well, except of course that having met aforementioned lovely lady, we then get to spend six weeks at least apart. Which will suck. But we'll always have scrabble. At any rate, it was a strange thing, I was hanging out with her last night, and upon the advice of my manly roommate who had been in a long term relationship, (and given what I learned from my last relationship where she emailed me wondering if I was going to kiss her) I was thinking of kissing her, because apparently that's what people do after a few weeks, keeping the relationship moving. But when I finally managed to ask her (I have this thing about consent, it's the only way I kiss) and she was totally baffled.

Turns out I read her wrong, she wasn't signaling that I should move faster, she in fact is just as confused about this whole dating thing as I am, for all that she's older. And so rather than awkwardly kissing, we just talked, for hours, and for the first time in my life I felt like I could talk about what I felt, what I was thinking, to the other person in the relationship. It always bugs me when you feel like the one person you can't talk to is the person in the relationship with you, to keep up appearances and such. So we talked about stuff, and how we wanted to move the relationship, how slowly in this case, because there's just the two of us and it's just our business. So... it was a good day. A long day, granted, I was up for about 22 hours and took two finals that morning, but a very good day.

Is it strange of me to be concerned that my life is apparently going well at the moment?

Yay it's Friday. I'm glad this week is almost over. Seems like it's been a long one.

And double yay that mean girl I told you guys about before is leaving next week. So, all I have to do is play nice for the going away junk this weekend and she'll be gone for good. I only planned on stopping by her little pot luck but now I think I might go to the happy hour tonight as well. There's a cute redheaded intern around these parts who might be there. I only met her briefly a few weeks ago and her personality didn't impress then but I figure the cute and redhead part earns her a second chance.
