I used to know some bikers; they liked me for some reason, and I used to hang out at their after-hours clubhouse. They called me "Whitey," that's my biker name it seems, but the point is this; these guys were all into freedom and self-reliance and being your own man and so on, but their club was festooned with swastikas and Nazi paraphernalia. To be fair, it was also festooned with innumerable women's' undergarments, a wide selection of porn, animal heads, and had a built-in pole-dancing stage. I tried to explain to them repeatedly that Nazi ideology was precisely the opposite of their own, that it was about the organic unity of the state in which we are merely cogs, pawns to be sacrificed to the greater good of the volk (and their wagens). Really, all they wanted to express was that they didn't like blacks, and/or maybe Jews (they were a little vague there). Ironically, they had no problem with my half-Asian friend, but she is pretty cute and that goes a long way even with racial purists.
I'm not really sure what the point of my story is, but I will say that I'd be happy to get up and speak at a Hitler dinner; they might not be so happy, but I'd have a great time. Also, I'd almost be more surprised if the candidate in question doesn't get elected! There are plenty of people in Indiana, I'm sure, with views not dissimilar to my former associates', and probably plenty more who could easily overlook the Hitler thing if he's a clean-cut Christian boy. I mean, Hitler was all about family values, after all.

Maybe he will get elected, what do I know about Indiana, but I’m not voting for him or any of his swastika wearing, womans’ garments having, porn viewing, animal head having built-in pole-dancing friends.

The way my Grandfather (a life long Republican) explained it to me was that the Civil Rights issue swung from the Republicans, who originally held it as they were the party of Linclon, because of the New Deal and Ms. Roosevelt's efforts on behalf of the civil rights of blacks (eg. Marion Anderson's concert at the Lincoln Memorial and the right to fight during WWII).
