Alrighty.
Well I'm a follower of the whole Simon/ Kaylee thing so I'm naturally inclined to say that they're the best pair.
However this is the way I see it: Simon and Kaylee will end up together, Mal and Anara will end up together but it will be a big complicated thing throughout the series (heres to praying there's more firefly episodes to come!).
As for the Jayne and River thing, my idea is that they'll come to an understanding and a friendship and look out for eachother but no more than that. I spose I'll have to check out the commentary again for that crush thing.
Wash and Zoe are a cool pair because they're sort of different people.
As for Book I don't think he'll be getting some action anytime soon, he's a Shepherd after all

Jumpy, you won't find anything on this in the commentary, least, I never have...and believe me, I listened for it.
This is all based on very subtle looks and interactions between River and Jayne. In other words, it's all in our heads.

Thought of another "subtle" Jayne/River moment. In OiS when all of the crew, minus River, are gathered in the mess to talk about her and they're saying she's a reader. Jayne really dislikes the idea, more so than the rest of them. And even after everyone else has left the table, he's still sitting there thinking about it. Don't you see?! It's proof that he's already started having those "dirty nekkid thoughts" about her again, and he doesn't want her to know about it.

AND, when everyone else gets up to leave, Jayne remains sitting.
And when I say it is all in our heads, well, really it kinda is. I honestly believe there is chemistry there, that there are lots and lots of subtle hints to the effect. But it is not ever addressed directly.
I mean, Mal and Inara have bared their souls in comparesion. Heck, even Simon has stated his intentions toward Kaylee more clearly...LOL

See, I have an explanation for that. They didn't want to have every person on the ship in a relationship. If all of the couples had paired up right away, it would have seemed too soap operaish. So they gave us these subtle Jayne/River hints to lead us along until the big payoff.

Okay there are a couple of hints but I don't really think they're romantic hints. Like Neroli says you've got Mal and Inara doing there thing and Simon and Kaylee (more or less hehe) doing there's so maybe there won't be enough room for another "inter-crew" romance (which is what you were saying).
Anyway it would be interesting to see!

Nope, not deluded at all, IMHO...I think it would have been too much to have it all obvious right away as well. Gotta leave some things for later in the series-that-will-be-again!!!

See, I really, truly do believe River and Jayne are soul-mates...there, I said it...it's just that I have to acknowledge that there is not much in the way of solid, blatent facts to base my opinion on.
