It's been 6 years since Firefly, the show seems dated and other series are better now...

I wonder what the hell that was all about? It would be very interesting to see it again. Was it produced by Oliver Stone? I rememeber Keith Gordon from Christine directing a couple of the episodes. Hmmm. Glad to see someone else remembers it too. :D

Yeah, as a college student who looks at television and film as my career of choice, the more I watch, the more certain I am that there is no one great show, that there is a large body of work that is the best, and each one is better than the others at certain things, but no one series or film can call themselves 'IT'.

If there are two series that I would choose as the 'Best of the Decade' they would be hands-down BSG and Firefly. I'll admit, I'm saying that with the bias of having only seen one episode of Lost, and maybe two of Heroes, and a part of one for Dark Angel, but I'll stand by my first statement. Firefly showed the most realistic future for humanity out of any sci-fi series I have seen. BSG is one of the best depictions of flawed humanity of any show. And for those who voiced problems with season 3, look back and realize the reason why season 1 was near perfect was that it only had 13 episodes. Season 2 & 3 had 20, so there will be obvious weak-points, and if you watch from the beginning much of what was done that people didn't like in season 3 was being set up in Season 1. They stuff you'll notice with the knowledge of what happens later is astounding.

But back to Firefly. As many people on this board, I was lucky to be introduced to Firefly on DVD before I saw Serenity. And as much as I love Firefly, the most I do is lurk on boards such as these, and wish that the closest Browncoat group was closer than 300 miles away, I think we can all be glad that our show is among the best.

I don't think Heroes is slow at all. My main problem is they take no time at all to set up anything. Most episodes they just jump from one little snippet to the next. The pacing within each piece is fine. Instead of cramming a bit of the main arc, and five or six other smaller arcs in one episode they should tie two of those smaller ones into the main and not focus on anything else. I hope to god they killed off Nicky for good... they need more room to breath and she's easily one of the weakest links. It's not hard to follow or anything, it's just frustrating when they kill the pace of the episode overall by jumping about like a kid hopped up on crack and Bawls changing channels while spinning in circles.

Anyway I'm a Browncoat. I'll never find a flaw in Firefly that will turn me off to it. I'll never stop enjoying an afternoon or evening watching a couple episodes or a day off doing a full marathon. I do like other shows. I'm also a Gater(Stargate Fan) and a big fan of M*A*S*H. I have posters on my wall of only four things Serenity, Stargate Atlantis, Bob Marley and Jimmy Buffett. Browncoat will, as far as I can see, be at the top of my list. I've been wearing one of those camouflage silicone Browncoat bracelets for about six months. There are better shows... just none I love as much.

Also I forgot to add that another show I've enjoyed watching lately has been 'My Name Is Earl' I'm a newcomer to this sort of show and have been pleasantly surprised at the dialog and plots. Which can miraculously achieve idiotic and genius at the same time. Another one to add to a list of witty shows with great writing and loads of genuine charisma between it's cast members. It's been airing Monday nights(that's tonight) at 9:00 central time on TBS. I've laughed harder at a few points than I might ever had watching Firefly the first time.

P.S. While I think Dollhouse will succeed I seriously doubt I'll enjoy it very much at all. I'll give it a damn good shot. It sounds like the type of show that's going to appeal greatly to the Buffy and Angel fans among our ranks. Which like I've said often before I am not one of.

Intesresting. I feel exactly the opposite. Sometimes, Heroes feels like nothing but set-up to me. The whole second season was set-up that practically led nowhere.

Oh Chrisisall just loves to set the fox among the chickens! LOL

I do agree w/you: I watch Firefly and Serenity less often, but when I do I am again struck by how wonderful: exciting, funny, and deep, this sci-fi show is.

I loved Star Trek (TOS, Next Gen, DS-9, and Voyager) but they don't stand up to watching too often. And although there are a lot of shows out right now in the Sci-fi/fantasy genre that I am enjoying, I don't find myself compelled to catch them on reruns, record them for closer viewing, and/or discussing them online endlessly.

So all in all I have to say that Firefly remains (for me) the best in Sci-fi, just as Buffy remains the best in fantasy. It doesn't mean that I don't watch and enjoy a lot of television.

Oh and (edited to add): I'll be VERY surprised if I don't love Dollhouse just as much!

Isn't that kinda my point? Maybe next season will kick ass, but that many episodes of pure set-up, especially when a lot of it undid the character progression already established in the first season, just came off as needless wheel-spinning.
