The studio has also put into development a sequel to "The Thomas Crown Affair"; remakes of titles that include "Death Wish," "Robocop" and "Fame"; and an adaptation TV sci-fi anthology "The Outer Limits."
Why would they make a new Robocop film when there is absolutely nothing wrong with the first one, the second one wasn't that great, and the third one was terrible?

Yep , I did catch that...
There's also a current Toyota commercial that
uses the phrase , " For not a lot of coin " ,
which sorta tells me that perhaps Browncoats are
considered trendy and influential...
Also , have noticed a lot of Brown in
Fashions...Last summer , even the T-shirt shops
at the beach were selling a lot of brown shirts
for beachwear...NEVER saw THAT before...

I dunno. This can be a good thing or a bad thing.

This could be a very good thing. MGM is looking for a stable franchise to guarantee long term money...does that ring of browncoat or what? Though Universal would probably not sell the rights to Serenity. Too much money involved.
When there are no heroes where will we turn?

Because there's a whole generation who has little, if any, idea who/what Robocop is.

Robocop was pre-CGI. Peter Weller didn't really try to identify himself with the franchise - he was "an actor" - above all that.
However, try to consider a remake of the primative SFX laden Terminator without Schwartznegger - much harder to pull off even with CGI. Robocop could be remade easier remake, and more impressive with CGI.
Oh, and: All Hail Mary Parent. Way to Go!! If she does well, Universal might reel her back in and she can greenlight a Big Damn Trilogy!! Or, F*x could hire her and she could give Joss a 44 episode commitment for more Firefly!!
OK, Okaay, I'll cut down on sugar now.
