Mike Phillips has a new online store.

There are over 100 drawings currently available both individually and in sets. Each print is signed by Mike, and is individually numbered. Only 100 of each will be sold.

Mike is also working on greeting card drawings for the holidays, and there will be a 2007 calendar ready for pre-order soon.

For those of you who haven't seen his work, Mike has two main styles:

This all sounds good and I would like to get some of it, but I have a question.

Is his work licensed by Universal??

I ask for a couple of reasons.

1. Universal will pull the plug on him really fast

2. Universal is looking for more money and if this is a licensed product we know that the proceeds are counted toward getting a sequel, which is ofcourse one of our main goals.

Hey DevonNite.

This store is one of dozens of sites selling fan-made Firefly merchandise out there. It's by fans, for fans.

The prints are not meant to replace licensed goods. We all know that Browncoats love us some licensed merch, but fan-made, unliscensed products have played a big role in the fandom too. They helped spread the word about Firefly long before licensed products were available. I don't think there's anything wrong with buying both types of merch.

So, just like all the other fan-merchants out in the black, this store will fly under the radar for a time. Your guess is as good as mine as to how long any fan-made products will be available.

Um - yeah. Mike's shop is really no different than any number of Firefly fan stores, only one of which has ever been shut down (by Fox, not Universal). Fanmade goods are very common in the 'verse, and far from taking away from profits that might be made by Fox or Universal they add to them by spreading knowledge and interest in the show in my opinion.

I for one hope he stays open for a long time, because I adore his work and want to buy lots of prints!

Talie, there is an explanation.

The store in this location closed. After quite a long time a decision was made to move the store and reopen at a later date. I'm sure there will be an announcement when it does.

I used to have something to do with the store but don't any longer. This is all I know at this time. I hope the folks now running it will come along and tell you more. :-)
