I literally just banged my head on the desk repeatedly... I honestly do not think they could get any lazier. I gave a kid a test and the short story the test questions came from with a numbered arrow pointing to each answer in the story.... and in 40 minutes he wrote his name and the word I...WTF??? OK seriously they are going to make me insane!!!!!

Ah, well, he's old too, you can't tell because of the costume. I like 'em like that, the further past 60 they are, the better.
And those velcro gloves are both comfortable and useful.

Here's the really sad part... the short story they were being tested on... I read it out loud twice to them yesterday. The second reading, I stopped every 1/2 page and had them review and tell me all the events that had occurred. Then when we finished the second reading, I had them do a step by step timeline of the events... yet today, not one of them could answer the sequence of events questions... why?? Because they don't want to learn and don't care so when I made them read and listen yesterday they were literally looking for ways to distract themselves from listening by writing notes, talking, drawing, trying to use cell phones, playing with tech decks, etc... which is why we did the second reading to begin with.. I asked them why they couldn't remember and most of them admitted they intentionally tried not to pay attention because " school is gay and no one cares about this stuff"
Ok rant over... sorry it's just occasionally so profoundly frustrating.

MSB? I really really feel you pain. I very nearly killed one today (I'm still not well) after I'd stayed up till 2am again marking then skipped both breaks and lunch sitting with students trying to help them pass I had one student refuse to write a one line correction because 'she was tired and being made to work too hard'. Why do I care more about them doing well than they do? How is that fair?! Breathe. They're not worth the prison sentance!
Jimi, I loves you and all but I have to check, that isn't the SAME beer bottle HK mentioned that you're currently drinking from is it? There are limits to the depravity that even I would accept with equanimity! (I know, it surprises me too!)

Thanks Jimi... just been a day. Mostly though teaching is good.. I just got an unusual crop of kids who have some serious home issues and are really working towards a thriving career as a drug dealer, a hooker, a teen mother on welfare, or gang banger... and much as I have tried to show them alternatives and provide them with skills... they really just don't want them...sigh. Well I will keep trying and I am leaving some great lesson plans and maybe the new teacher will do better...
Ok enough whining... time to do something cheering like plot the downfall of my administration...
