There has been recent development in the chat room that should be brought to the attention of all. Several annoying, foul-mouthed, infantile chatters have discovered and preceded to overrun the chat. Their lack of knowledge of the English language and of anything related to Firefly or Joss Whedon leads me to believe they are not Browncoats or Flans and should not be allowed to dominate the chat. Also their use of crude, crass, and simply vile language should be enough to have them banned, and preferable spanked and put in time out.

This sort of thing is becoming a problem in the chat lately. If it's not this it's the annoying spammer-of-shady-links as I call it. We need better security for the chat room. Possibly a couple monitors or moderators or whatever. I think volunteers could be found quite easily.

A list of the offenders. Some might be less so than others but they all seem to be contributing to the overall hostile environment of the chatroom.

I'm almost sure this was just some sort of internet prank thing; like the people from LUElinks or /b/ or 4chan but without the child pornography. We should consider ourselves lucky...

The spam is getting crazy. All handbags all the time. Not cool.

I've tried to clear the room on multiple occassions only to get spammed mid clear.

This morning, March 7, at 9:40, 10:31, and 11:25 EST AM a Guest posted handbag spam. Please say we can block this IP or something. It's likely some sort of bot that waits for activity in the room.

Well the spammer wasn't exactly what the thread was about. But yes he/it/she is still a problem. Again we need some sort of moderators. I'd volunteer myself if I were always going to be on as much as I've been recently. With an upcoming move and then a job afterwards... I'd still do some on weeknights and sometimes on weekends. Either way we need something happening with the chat. It's seeming somewhat neglected. Though I doubt it's intentional.

The moderators have never really patrolled the chat. We've taken care of ourselves and tried to keep more adult behaviors and language out if there were known youngsters around that time of day. That's not to say we haven't all participated in some chat clearing.

Still we need something better. I'm getting sick of the little punks.. "Who U how old r u?" "fck U!!!" "U betch!"... I've lost all hope in the next generation. I'm about ready to just leave the site and start my own chatroom or find another. One with moderators and forced-registration to reduce the spammers.

An admission, although one I am really reluctant to offer.

I was an IrCOP for Peacefulhaven.net before I caught them stealing and misusing folks personal info.

In fact a search of my name might still reveal some of the usenet discussion when I tore into the administrators for it.

Anyhows, if you need a live body to cover in the chat, I can do it if folks are ok with that - I'd rather not, but if no one else steps up, I can spare a little time, but it'd be mostly way late at night/early morning.

Course, we'd have to discuss this with whoever owns and admins the server, which'd likely be Haken ? whom I respect a heck of a lot, and wouldn't mind doin this for, what with all he's done for us.

I'd rather not, but if it's this or let them durned purplebelly spammers take our chat ?

It's getting worse, not with the foul-mouthed little so-and-sos but the whole "Hi! (some-crap-link-to-more-than-likely-virius-infested-website) Crappy Music Link!"

I'd say we kind of need to put in place a 'temp' block to people who are just members (yes, I know, it will make all the new ones kind of nervous in joining by singing-up) and whoever signs up and starts spamming ... take their e-mail and band them...

That's just my 2 cents.

We sleep soundly in our beds because rough men stand ready in the night to visit those who would do us harm.

i try and keep my manners when im in the chat,i havent seen much abuse or felt the need to remind others of young-uns but them spammers were a right pain

Burn the little buggers.
It's one thing to curse (Which I do too much, but not all that much on these boards, I try)
It's another to not know the bloody language.
And English is theie first language most of the time- these new 'uns just don't care, which makes them a new kind of stupid. Hell, it's mMY bloody generation, and I don't believe in 'em.
