I'd suggest dropping th 2008 from the website name so's you can have it as a ref site for a longer time, dong ma?

To all those here who have pledged their support, offered their encouragement, and contributed invaluable suggestions, I am pleased to say that this effort is officially a Go.

Announcing the Serenity Day 2008 Official Thread

In an effort to better organize SD08, to better make use of the time and energies of those offering their help and suggestions, and to better be noticed by TPTB at Universal, an official pinned thread has been created on the Universal HD Firefly boards:

My first order of business on existing threads, such as this, is as follows:

-- announce the establishment of the official pinned thread; link
-- compile all of the suggestions for charities posted in existing threads
-- add any other suggestions from previous threads not related to SD08 event date (picked), charities (see last point), and online "home base" for this effort (picked; see above link)

I thank everyone for their excellent suggestions. Because of you, we've already:

-- turned this from a simple DVD sale push into a combo charity event
-- picked a date
-- selected an online base of operations

I am especially grateful for those who helped to pick a date, and assure that SD08 does not, in any way, conflict with other events in the 'verse (particularly pure charity events such as CSTS).

I'd debated that a lot before choosing the URL, and decided to go with a date-specific URL to avoid any confusion with the original Serenity Day (2006). I agree that this will limit the URL for general purpose promotion, but assuming we have a valid need for general purpose promotion in 2009, that's a problem I'll gladly face!
