In response to the recently foiled murder plot against the Danish cartoonist who did the Mohammed cartoons, the main newspapers in these countries are re-running the complete cartoon series. How wonderfully refreshing to see something out there that isn't pandering or shivering to Islam. It is a loud & bold statement of cherished beliefs of freedom of the press, and I salute those newspapers for having the courage to stand up to evil and insanity.

heh... well we do believe in equality... and that includes the ridicule of all political and/or religious leaders (including prophets) with complete impartiality.

what has been irking me about this whole conflict tho, is that its ok for muslims to burn the american flag (wich is as important to americans as muhammed is to muslims, even tho i cant figure out why) or ridiculing the beliefs of jews and christians (of wich i am neither i might add) but if anyone makes so much as a sly remark about something "they" hold dear we are incredibly unfair and just generally horrible people.

i know of more than a few muslims in sweden that dont think its about the prophet at all... its about the west treating all muslim countries as children and not giving them enough respect... and i think there is alot to that.
now, before you go ahead and flame me, i would like to add that you have to look at how the west have treated muslim/arab countries the last 100 years before you start shouting... not just the last 10 years (wich we have a tendency to do here in the west).

we have basically just stepped on them and used them to wipe the muck off our shoes... no wonder they hate us.

what we need to do now is to stop meddling in their affairs and start treating them as adults (even if they, the countries, dont act like it sometimes.. but like i said, thats our fault to start with)

sorry... just had to vent my oppinion on this...

Hey Oddball...I like and agree very much with the first half of your post...great stuff!
The second half is where I think you go a bit awry. The "West" has done much for Arabs/Muslims...some minor contributions being:
1) Liberating their countries and peoples from the horrors of the Nazi occupation in WWII
2) Building, developing, and training their people in the production of petroleum. We built it all, we use the products, but they get revenues in the billions they never would have had without the West. It's not our fault that the "leader's don't share the oil revenue wealth with the average person; instead they choose to teach hatred and death to the West, and they horde the money for themselves.
3) The West has armed Arab countries for their self-defense, selling fighter jets, missles , etc.
4) The West acted almost immediately to liberate Kuwait when it was viciously attacked by Iraq in 1991, and it's people were being raped and tortured. The West did that...other Arab countries didn;t lift a finger to help their "brothers".
There are many more examples of how the West has helped the Arab world...technology, computers, communications, water treatment, tourism, banking, medical care, air travel, television, movies...etc etc ...all for the betterment of the Arab world.
To say that the West has wiped their shoes on them is denial of the truth at best, and useful-idiot propaganda at worst. Tell me how you "treat people like adults" when they cut peoples' heads off, or cheer and dance over the slaughter of innocent women & children. Bottom line, they'd have almost nothing that they didn't have 1000 years ago if not for the civility and humanity of the West.

Yeh you tell em JS. You say the west is bad even when we try to stop the killing of muslims. When we feed starving people and then if we don't come on time after a natural disaster. Yeh islam is great grab a rug and live in the stone age.
