I'm active on those boards, too, and will make sure to cross-coordinate between the two. Great ideas!
I'll also let them know of the concerns you've raised regarding CSTS. Many thanks. :)

"Ask him"
That is kind of vague now that you mention it.
By that I meant the guys at CSTS. I think the head person is (or at least was) theonetruebix. There was a butting of heads last time that we should try to avoid.

regardless, lots of good ideas to get started with. please keep 'em coming!

That's the idea...Free 'promo' material , paid for by Universal , that will also get us noticed...
What's not to like about that ?

There are Browncoats all around the 'Verse who would be very happy to pitch in on this idea, I'm sure.
It's a good idea! We need a push to buy the DVD's, it's the language Universal understands.
Some suggestions though...
Don't do it on the June 23rd date, unless you have permission from the current runner of CSTS. You can probably find what you need to know about CSTS ( Can't Stop the Serenity )and what they're about at www.cantstoptheserenity.com
Here's their contact page:

Another day might be better and I'm sure folks would be amenable to whatever is decided.
DO get input from TDBrown who runs the Operation Signal Boost bunch ( I'm a member of that crew ), he and our crew will be most helpful and we'll help you spread the word.
The Browncoat Signal Corps ( what's left of it ) is at your service. We'll do the best we can to spread the word.

I just went back through some of the old forums to look at the past Serenity Day ideas and want not and it reminded me of something I actually wanted to forget. The last time we tried planning a Serenity Day we caused a lot of discontent on this site and created more than one faction. We stepped on the toes of the Can't Stop the Serenity people and people accidentally thought that those screenings were to get a new movie and not the CHARITY they were really for. That was bad. Then we had the people who wanted to beg for a new movie, when the real idea was to thank Universal for the movie we got. Let's be honest, due to Joss never giving up we're pretty lucky we got the BDM at all. The begging for a movie by fans didn't do a whole lot.
I'm just saying these things to prevent the rift that was caused last time. We Browncoats don't need that. We are such a large group we could do so much. At what point do we say we're thankful for what we have, and if we get more than that's awesome. In the meantime, we can use this community to do something worth doing.
The CSTS people have it right. We are a community who will unite together over something we all love and help people because we can. We are all willing to spend some money on another DVD so we can get another movie. At what point is that selfish? At what point do we decide to put all this energy towards something good?
Nathan Fillion has his Kids Need To Read Charity that we could easily create support for and turn into a large charity. And, there are plenty of other charities out there. We all seem to love film, we could create our own Scholarship fund for up and coming filmmakers who can't afford college. We can donate books and DVD's to libraries (like some of us already do). We are a force that can do so much, yet we all come to this site and it always comes back to the same thing, we all want more. Whether or not we get more Serenity is really not in our control anymore. Joss created us and united us as an army of Browncoats. What we do next is our call.
We CAN help the helpless.

Count me in. I'm always ready to purchase some more CE dvds and spread the word.

Being someone involved with KNTR I run the risk of being obvious here, but huzzah! for the suggestions Dewrastler!
Having a day where we promote buying the DVD in and of itself isn't a bad idea, it's a good idea...but having it interfere with any of our charity activities is not good, because we don't want to distract energy or money from those things.
Picking the day the movie came out ( Sereniversary ), or the day the DVD came out for a push to buy it is a much better thing.
But ultimately, IMHO, we're better off to work to recruit new Browncoats by sharing the 'Verse. By staying in the public eye in the best way possible, not as a fandom who "wants more", but as a fandom that does good works. By buying as much official merchandise as we can afford ( including the CE!! ) and by guerrilla marketing ( see 11th Hours bookmark post). By basically doing what we've been doing. By staying a community that does something worthwhile with the energy and focus that we have.
With KNTR something that folks can do every day, with the screenings in June coming up quickly and needing participation and money from all of us, with local shindigs and fun to plan, we really have quite a bit to keep us busy.
All that being said, I'm up for adding a CE buying day to my calendar and happy to do so. :-)

There are two dates having to do with the BDM that would work well for this project:
BDCE Day, August 18th, the Release date for the Collector's Edition, and
Sereniversary Day, Sept 30th, which is the Anniversary of Serenity's Initial Release.
The first date is the most appropriate, and no other Charity lays "claim" to that date. It would give you plenty of time to organize all this and coordinate with local BC Groups.
The second date is host to quite a few local Charity events, such as the annual Sereniversary Screening that I sponsor in Indiana. My particular event helps a local Women's Shelter. You could do it on this date, perhaps tying it into other "Grassroots" efforts.
Just a few ideas so you can be successful

I'm in.
I went ape over the last Serenity Day. I bought 4 copies of the movie, 4 copies of the series, a bunch of bumper stickers, T-shirts and 12 coffe mugs with some of my favorite sayings from the show.
I'm in the middle of watching the series again right now, and it stills makes me spittin' mad as to how they could have cancelled it. It is by far, the best gorram show on TV - ever.
So, you tell me the date, and I will spend the money!
I'm still holdin', 'til Firefly gets back.
