Good idea. I'm not really a fan of either but it would be great exposure. Don't get me wrong they are good shows, they just don't interest me. Same with Buffy and Angel.

Anyway seeing as Stargate: Atlantis is fairly unaffected by the strike we'll still have Jewel getting her time. She's not on every episode but the ones she's on she shines. And rumor is that she may be upgraded next season. Just a rumor and not a widespread one at this point. I think they just started her smaller to ease her in on the Beckett fans(which I am among, I loved Carson as the doctor) and to see how she fits the role so they don't have another problem like they did with Ford. Rainbow felt he didn't fit the role from what I've heard which is why they wrote him off and brought in Jason Momoa as Ronon Dex.

It's a damn shame! When I think about the 100's of millions of dollars that are gonna be pissed away this year on something as meaningless as Presidential campaigns, I can only think that'd be enough money for a BDM sequel AND a cable mini-series! This country's priorities are screwed up.

I'm going to posit the horrible likelihood that the Firefly/Serenity series of tv shows and movies is dead, buried, gone. For many reasons, including lack of studio and production interest, the unavailability of the actors involved, the aging of said actors, the fact the Whedon killed off the heart and soul of the series (Wash & Book). I'm not referring to comics.

So, what's left, aside from comics, is the community created around Serenifly, which, though injured, is vibrant and alive. Proof being the number of fanatics populating this shiny website, amongst others.

There's signs pointing toward the end of the WGA strike, what with the contract with Lion's Gate and the fact the union won't be picketing the Grammy Awards. So, let's say the WGA settles all of its differences tomorrow: what then? Joss has his new series with Dushku (sp?), Fillion and the rest of the Firefly cast appear for the most part to be elsewise employed, and Universal, who own the rights to Serenity, are moot regarding what they want to do with those rights.

We do have each other. That ain't so bad. In fact, it's a good thing.

I dunno, likely it's just that a 'verse without Book and Wash in it just damages my calm.

One thing I could see is a spin-off. About fifty years later the Serenity is back at some used spacecraft bone yard and a new perspective owner is caught in the trance of the Serenity's spell. Now we have whole new characters with different stories.

Maybe the Allience is finally recovering from the scum that were playing power games. So there would be new antagonists. And they could be allowed so shady deals just to earn the cash to keep Serenity afloat.

I feel too many years have slid by. Joss must have thousands of project racing through his head. I can not blame Joss if he wants to pursue other ideas. And as I said in an earlier post, the crew are finding their own opportunities on show like Stargate Atlantis and Chuck. So a spin-off is the only way I think we will see Serenity again. And it may not be with Joss at the wheel. FOX may put someone else at the in the drivers seat.

Again I think the point was they thought since the Writer's Strike is going on Hollywood needs new material or something. Honestly it's not logical at all. I could see maybe a show that got scrapped yet had dozens of unfilmed scripts might be done but for one thing the strike looks to be near it's end. Either way the strike won't bring back Firefly. It's not a stretch to see why the original poster thought it might but it also doesn't take much thinking to see how illogical it is as well as silly. Still it's a nice thought and I hope someday there is a spin-off. I think theres much to tell of the 'verse.

@the above post. Seriously if there is a spinoff I doubt even if Serenity herself will be in it. At least regularly. I'm not Joss... haha.. but if I were doing a spinoff I'd set it either on a rim world in a small mining or farming community or in one of the outer core worlds and center around the organization that helped Simon bust his sister out of the Academy. Joss likes big stories with fun characters that balance realism with absurdity so I'd be willing to bet on something so completely unexpected it hurts.

Anyway again this post is silly and the strike won't bring back Firefly. Nice daydream though.

I guess I was thinking that maybe when terms and such came up, that it would be stated that "some of our(writers)work needs to really be given a chance to shine" ya know, they killed shows with out giving writers a chance to tell a story. Joss had to re-write stuff cause FOX didnt like it.

I guess I am just wishing for a round table discussion to be kinda like this

Ya, and before we come back to work, we want shows that we have done and have a large following to be given a second chance. (or something like that)

I know the strike wont bring Firefly back, I am just pondering and asking you guys if you think it will help or hurt Joss's position(future shows/movies)? Thats all.

I doubt it will help or hurt. Seriously it's all they can do to sit down with these people, I doubt they will bring up the topic of previously canceled shows, or much of anything other than the business of fair payment.

I feel something is going to happen soon that will swiftly and abruptly alter the way television and movies are made and presented. Every couple decades or so something big seems to happen and every four of five something even bigger does. Don't ask me what I just have a feeling going to the movies won't be remotely same in ten years or so.

Who knows, we might get something even better than Firefly from Joss someday. I'll be watching Dollhouse and I have hopes for it but I'm not letting myself get too excited. It is Fox after all.

Here is another thing I have been thinking about and dont have a real answer for. I am reading the book called "Serenity Found" and there is a lot of well know(in the hollywood inner circles) who give there take on Firefly/Serenity. They all seen to love it and have really good takes on the verse.

Why did it fail? I know Fox shot it down before it had a chance, but it had enough push to get a movie out of 11 episodes.

Why did the movie fail? I mean why not box office records and stuff ya know. It was well written and well acted. Sfx were good. Good reviews. Why did it tank? There have been many other movies that were "sleepers" and have gone on to be big box office movies and now you have sequals? What gives, really?

I know i will get the "well people just dont know anything about it." commints, but even with that, if it was such a great movie, then word of mouth should have helped save it for a sequal?

dont get me wrong, i love the verse. even more than star wars, and i have loved that since i was a sperm, haha but not after being exposed to Firefly/Serenity. Now it's top of my list, and will be for a long time.

Possibly because the modern definition of "tank" is "fails to make windfall profits on the opening weekend". Word-of-mouth doesn't really work if the film is only in cinemas for 3 weeks.

Did we ever get to find out how well it sold on DVD?
