New Movie? New Series? Can we stand it without the original characters?

Well, first off, (and I don't know if this has already been said) I doubt we'd have to worry about something like this, the main concern is if we can manage to get another film (buy those special editions), but if another film IS made, I think most of the cast would be very excited to be on board. Jewel has said she'd like to be, Adam and Nathan clearly love the show to death, etc.

What Kayna said. :) If Joss were behind it, with a different band of briggands, I'm fair certain I could live with that. It would be kinda like watching a different spin-off of Star Trek, or Stargate: I wouldn't watch it as Firefly, but more like Firefly-Londinium, or some such. :)
But my coat has sort of a brownish color, and that don't come off: neither the color, nor the coat.

I couldn't watch the crew of Serenity portrayed by anyone other than the original cast.
I just couldn't.
however, if Joss were to do a new show, on a new ship, with a new crew. That I would watch.

I was actually thinking about this thread not too long ago in the means of if there was another Tale from the Verse minus the original crew, how could that be pulled off.
What if Joss did a story on origins?
As in perhaps sort of 'documenting' the lives of the original Tams, Reynolds, Fryes, Cobs, whichever and how many, just after they borded arc ships and left earth that was. Perhaps the families were all on the shame ship (working on the ship maybe, dealing with the dangers of the trip and/or passengers) and knew each other before touching down on Shinon and going their separate ways. Giving an interesting link to what would happen to their progeny down the road and tying in the original franchise itself.
Regardless, it's just me, babbling.

Gotta have Mal, Zoe, Jayne (well, Jayne), Inara and Kaylee. Losing Wash is tough but Joss can write another pilot loony in. Sheperd is gone too but another mysterious character with secrets can be written.
I'd watch it in a heartbeat.
Just think of all the characters that can be created to fill in the character positions we know and love. I can dig it.

If I had my choice, I'd want Joss to disregard the movie altogether. Run the TV show from OiS.
Yes the movie is great. I don't care about "canon" or continuity or anything. It's a tv show, and I want my favorite characters back :) Let him kill them off later, as he would have without the canceling.

Quote:Don't forget the unfortunate rise in the Reality Show craze. If this show had been on SciFi channel we would still be enjoying new episodes ..

I'm sure this question is old for all of you guys, but was this show advertised much? I can understand my misssing it over here in Japan, but how did so many other folks who are relatively fond of Sci-fi miss it?? Wondering in Ibaraki, BEB2
PS Is there anything else I can do from over here, besides give these DVDs as gifts?
Welcome!
The problems were (and I'm sure others can add to the list):
--Lack of marketing
--Marketing that did not reflect what the show really was (it was set to rock music, made to look like pure adventure, etc etc)
--VERY BAD time slot for a new show (Friday night. VERY bad time for tv ratings in the USA)
--Episodes aired out of order, so even those that were interested in the show had no idea what was going on (The pilot episode was actually the LAST show to air)
--FOX did not "get" the show at all, kept asking Joss to change it.
