The WORST single acting moment in an episode!!

Ok, so we all love the series and think the actors are great but..everyone has a bad MOMENT.

Post up the moment in the BDS/BDM where you think one of the actors was quite obviously ACTING.

I have two:

1. The beginning of "Trash", where Mal has his reunion with Monty. After Monty's line regarding introducing Mal to "the missus", Nathan has a "mock-surprise small step back" move in response, preceding the "fallen from our noble bachelor ranks" line and it's just..bad. Really FAKE! I can see what he was going for, can even believe that he was faking shock IN CHARACTER but..it just doesn't work. I smile every time I watch it, and just kinda say "yeah, Nate, ya missed that one."

2. Kitchen scene in "The Train Job" with Inara and Book..Book makes a comment about helping with the crime, the "well not HELP help" line (which he delivers PERFECTLY) and then..the line "I do feel awfully useless". Yeah..Ron blows that line. It sounds really forced, and he does this little head-bob thing that doesn't look natural at ALL.

I actually think Jayne's line at the beginning of Serenity was pretty poorly delivered. The "what you plan and what takes place ain't exactly similar" line. Love the line, but the delivery is so forced, and the cheesy smile on Jayne's face when he says it, just don't work for me.

"What's going on? Oh God. Shepherd!"
"What are you doing what about Simon and River!" *whiiiine*

Baaaaaaaaaaad. Kills the whole scene for me, just takes me out of it and leaves me (even the first time) not at all worried about Book. It seems especially poor when offset by the stunning and heartwrenching performance delivered by Summer in this episode.

I don't think that being cautiously ashamed, or selectively ashamed, or in any way ashamed of who I am is any way to live my life.

One tiny acting beat that distracts me is in the pilot. After the reveal that River's in the box and Mal goes "Shock of what? Finding out that's been sold to a border world baron. Or...I'm sorry, is this one for you? Is it true love? Because you two seem to be very-" and the River pokes her head out and starts screaming. When Mal "reacts" in surprise and jumps back, it's so obviously a very exaggerated response. As if his shock was perfectly timed. It doesn't seem spontaneous at all.

That's the first one I can think off the top of my head. I dunno. It's been a while since I had seen the series (I'm not one of those guys whose seen the show hundreds of times. I have other stuff to watch.), so I haven't completely memorized nine actors performances over a half season of episodes.

I have problems with specific characters, but that's more Joss and the writer's faults than the actors.

There are a batch of poor line readings but
I prefer not to dwell on them. Just watch
and cringe from time to time.

Nathan's response to Monty's marriage is
deliberately cheesy and I get a kick out
of it. It's of a piece with the obviously
intentionally overdone "Is this one for
you?" which you also don't like. Part of
the Mal character? Response to direction?
Pure Nathan? I haven't seen enough other
Nathan to know.

It's more fun to watch the thing than to pick
it to pieces, IMHO.

While I hate to rip into our beloved show (because Firefly at its worst is still better than most every other show at its best), here are mine...

• Jewel's "You just gotta have faith in people" line in "Serenity".
• Some of the laughter around the dinner table sounded really forced, like in OoG, when Jewel says, "Shepherd Book was just telling us funny stories..." and Nathan & Gina telling about Tracy and the mustache in "The Message".

I feel dirty now.
Is this how starved for discussion fodder we've become?

Can't remember the episode but it's where they are around the table and talking about River being psychic and Wash says that it sounds like something from science fiction and Zoe says 'We live on a spaceship dear' and then Wash (I believe says) 'So'.

It's a fine joke but just seems a little forced to get the joke out there.

That's all I can think of now.

I believe that was Objects in Space. As for commenting on the main post, all of the ones I've thought of have already been mentioned.

and scene that the actor who played rance burguce is in. GAWD is that man AWFUL! It's a weak episode and having his horrible acting in it as much as it is just stands out so much.

Oh, the image of when he's on the "phone" and confirming the child is his-- what's the whole 'waving of the hand' bit? My eyes hurt just thinking of all that horrible acting! I rarely watch that episode just because of him.

As far as our BDHs....? Wow.. I never thought about them in a *bad* way... I guess I'll just have to watch all my dvds to see if I can find some.... :)

oh, poor me- what a hardship ;)
