I actually firmly believe this to be completely true.
The amount of friends, acquaintances and others that I would normally consider to be intelligent, thoughtful and free-thinking humans who sit there and religiously watch crappy reality TV.
Using Big Brother as the example:
They'll watch all the variations of the program.
They'll make sure they are in to see it all.
If for some reason they can't be in they'll record it.
Eviction night is like some holy ritual. You'll go to hell if you should dare call them whilst it's on.
Yet when it comes to a show that actually requires your attention to follow it (Firefly, Lost and any other with ongoing plot points) they don't watch/record every episode and then wonder why they can't figure out what's going on. So then they stop watching.
Idiots.
To adapt a famous quote (that I'll use as my tag now):
"We few, we happy few, we band of Browncoats".
Anyway onto another reason:
13. F*x needed to be good at something, so they decided to be good at cancelling TV shows.
"I don't believe in suicide, but if you'd like to try it it might cheer me up to watch."

12. The execs were reviewing the outline for the season finale "Miranda" when a large black limo drew up outside. A man got out, came into the boardroom, drew a sword and said, quietly, "Do you know what your sin is?"
13. The Blue Man Group sued for defamation.

I think that means that this fabled Blue Man group sued because they were insulted by the Hands of Blue being on the show.
17. Fox is a cooperative retard who wants to make sure that there are no others smarter than them.

18. FOX had an on-going bet with both WB and UPN networks to see who can cancel the most shows in one year. (Unfortunately, no one has told FOX that the game was over when they merged to become CW!)

Very interesting. Can you expand on this reason? Did the execs feel related to the terrifying space monkeys, and insulted by thier mention? On another note, would these also be known as terrifying sponkeys? Or spankeys?

19. The lower rankings execs went up to the big boss and said "Firefly is too intelligent and doesn't fit into any established genre. No-one here can work out how to promote it nor when it should run. Basically we can't sell Firefly." The big boss (who had commisioned the show in the first place) looked them in the eye and simply said "You can sell Firefly." Unfortunately they misheard him.
20. In a previous life, Joss spent 8 hours a day dropping kittens into a threshing machine.
21. Chuck Norris was so angry about Walker, Texas Ranger being axed, his rage spread through the TV network, cancelling Firefly, Now and Again and turning The Simpsons into a ghastly shadow of its former self.
