I agree with Jossisagod. Mr Lucas does many things well, but directing actors (or allowing the actors to act) is not one of them. After seeing Hayden in another movie, "Life as a House", I think it becomes fairly obvious that he actually is pretty good.

That, my friend, is just wrong. An influential and note-worthy SCIENCE FICTION writer yes, but in the broader sense of all the authors of the late 20th Century, hardly. Besides, I think Card is by far the best scifi novelist sense Heinlein, unless you count Vonnegut who just blows both of them out of the water and is definitely one of the most important writers of the entire 20th century and produced probably the best book of that century, being Cat's Cradle.

Give him a chance; Hayden's not that bad an actor (I've seen some of his other roles). It's Lucas who can't write dialogue or direct to save his planet.

And AotC Anakin was plenty thin and gaunt --he bulked up for RotS. I'm guessing he'll drop weight for this (and don't underestimate the influence of makeup, lighting, and film stock to emphasize sunken cheeks and sleep-deprived eyes).

Trivia: Hayden once appeared alongside our own Jewel Stait on the TV series Higher Ground.

I'll let ya get down off the -major soap box, and step up onto my -post-graduate one. :P

Gibson's influence goes far, FAR beyond that of OSC. OSC is an heir to the Arthur C. Clarke, Asimov and Heinlein style of "hard" science fiction. Gibson is something completely different..and no novel SINCE 2001 or Gravity's Rainbow has influenced the direction of the genre as much as Neuromancer.

Gibson;s novel changed an industry, and brought legitimacy to a fledgling genre. Is he as influential in the literary world at large as Vonnegut, Morrison, Kerouac? Of course not. But in the pool of published authors from the late 20th, his is a name that stands out.

Give the man a bit of credit. :)

I suppose we're arguing more about what "one of the most influential" entails more than anything. His body of work is not huge, and includes some stinkers (The Difference Engine or, "How to put your brain to sleep"), but THAT NOVEL is an important part of literary history, if not an incredibly known one.
