Stardust - Anyone else find it disapointing ?

Interesting. I'm not really a graphic novel person. I enjoy the art sometimes if it's decent but otherwise they've never held my attention as well as a good book. Might take a look if I ever see it though.
Also I only watched all of The Matrix, didn't care enough about it to bother with the sequels, though I did catch a bit of the second and was far from impressed. Gotta watch it to hate it I guess. The first one was ok but I felt it lacked much talent besides Fishburne. He should play a character in the next 'Verse film/series. I've never seen him on film with his wife but I'd bet they work well together.

It's styled more like a childrens book than a graphic novel. Each page isn't adorned with panels like a comic book, instead there are renderings alongside or beneath the text. To make a long story short this particular graphic novel is more about the words, not the artwork.

My opinion exactly. I had read Stardust in 1998, long before I ever knew of this film, strictly on the merits of it being a Gaiman tale. It was as good as any of his sandman stories. (which btw if you haven't read them..do so. Singate will agree with me.)
The film fell far short of the written story. I didn't find Stardust's problems to relate to book-to-film transition issues, I felt more that the filmakers were just being lazy about things.
All through this movie I was making observations of things that could have been done better. One example of several: The witches lived in a cottage, not a palace. They had a mirror that reflected youthful dopplegangers of them. I felt the ending would have been better if Michelle Pfeiffer (witch Lamia, ugly hunched crone) was reflected in the surrounding mirrors in radiant beauty...but alas no...filmakers couldn't think that well about their own movie. The whole film was rife with little things like that.
They never even bothered to explain that the characters were in Faerie. ugg.
