According to an interview Tim Minear did on The Succubus Club radio show. Tim and Joss Whedon have talked about Tim returning to Firefly for the sequel to Serenity, assuming there will be one, nock on wood. Tim talks for about 2 hours mostly about Wonderfalls. Download the 21MB MP3 below to hear the show. At about 1hr 28min he talks about Serenity.

Reading between the lines does this mean that Firefly will not be return to TV and is now destined to become a movie series, nock on wood?

Hopefully the sequel will be on HBO, and there'll be one every week.

I hope note because I don't want to have to pay for HBO.

Imagine the possibilities if Serenity is a successful movie (and it will, we know it). There may be a new tv series, more feature bid screen movies, comic books, books, action figures, halloween costumes, Jayne drinks this beer advertisements. The list could go on and on.

Oh, and play Cantr II at www.cantr.net.

ewwww. I dunno, I'd do anything to avoid having my Firefly interrupted with bullsh*t commercials. I don't even have cable, but if its on HBO it'll be free from the the pressures broadcast networks shackle on a show.... As far as all the other stuff, well it kind of makes me queasy. Don't know why, maybe I just don't want to see Firefly as the next pop fad.

"Every week." High five on that.

I don't think Firefly will reach the sickening heights of Star Warsian trinket development. Should there be any souvenirs and promotional items, and I don't see why not, I'm thinking they'll be somewhat tasteful. So I wouldn't mind showing off my Serenity umbrella or wearing my Serenity shoulder bag with Chinese wishes for peace and harmony.

Woah, I personally hope Firefly returns to us on TV, as in EVERY WEEK! I'm not going to wait years for each installment! This is of course assuming that the movie would be good, but not nearly as good as it could be in my living room every week, with Kaylee there to keep me company.

Wasn't the plan to bring it back to TV?

Ain't. We. Just.

Eek! No sequels.

One movie, and that's all I want. Then I want the television show back. You usually have to wait two years at least between sequels. There is no way to cram as much depth into the relationships between the characters in a movie rather than in televison. The main reason to watch firefly is the well crafted characters and setting that lend themselves to exploring multiple themes every week. That aspect of Firefly is lost in a movie format.

Movie=2hrs firefly every two years.
or...
Television= 18hrs of firefly every 1 year.

I like the second option better.

add onto that the fact we'd probably only get 3 movies max compaed to a possible 6-7 seasons of the series

on a side note, has Joss made any kind of a statement since the anouncement about serenity being greenlighted was made?

Not a thing that I've seen. The only official words from the Mutant Enemy offfice have come from that affable chap, president Chris Buchanan. His words are somewhere in an earlier thread here.
