Firefly Names for Pets

I have a pet with a firefly name, A cute playful kitten, named Kaylee.

Very cool. Glad to know I'm not the only one who has a car with a name. My car is Giles, because I'm in library school, so I wanted a librarian-type name. It's amazing how few famous librarians there are!

Through those comments and the short identification of the speaker -- fashioned after a history book citation -- I hint at my predictions about how the 'big picture' story arc will go. I've already done Book, Inara and Kaylee; Jayne's next for sure and written; then I think it will be Zoe, Wash, Simon and Mal, but that order isn't written in stone yet. I do know River will comment on River last, and I've already got hers written...
I don't claim clairvoyance, so don't blame me if my vision and JW's differs pretty significantly. It's just fun to do.
Anyway, glad you enjoy them. Be the envy of the BDM tail-gate party! Collect all nine! (zoid takes his medication and waits calmly until the desire to write advertising copy subsides)

I'm a newbie here, but I just adopted a new puppy I've named Zoe. She's a fiesty terrier/shepherd mix, mostly black but with some brown mixed in, and she has brown boots, and pretty brown eyes. She was abandonded in a local dog park (or perhaps she was fighting for her independence...?) so I figured the name fit.

So, for the collection, do I need to make little cards for each one, or can I just memorize them and drop them casually into conversation?
They really are cool, and I'm enjoying them a lot. Keep up the good work, and I'm looking forward to Jayne's.

Oh since weapons count...
My Winchester 94 Trapper is named, of course, Vera.
My Ruger Single Six is named, Big Damn Pistol.
And my knife is named, Middle Sized Knife.
I think Jayne would approve of the latter two as well, they seemed like Jayne type monikers for hardware. 
Yeah they're Firefly-ish weapons, but hey, I AM a cowboy. 
Pain is scary...

Thanks, they're fun to do, too. Use 'em however you like; I surely don't mind. Better yet, try your hand at making some up. Here's my method:
You've got to have some predictions about how something in the show was gonna turn out, right? Well, take a prediction, then pretend that you and one of the characters are having a casual conversation about how that aspect worked itself out over the course of the show. Of course, this technique does require you to have something of a split personality, or the ability to carry on both sides of a conversation in your head ("Mal! Jayne stole my dinosaurs!", "I think we should call it your... p-place where folks get buried!", "God, you guys are driving me nuts!"), or an 'invisible playmate' to do the other character's lines.
(Hey, it's okay, I just have "a rich internal landscape" like Wash's; I don't have to take medications or nuthin')
Then just take a suitably vague but portentious snippet of that imaginary conversation -- something subtly witty in the manner of Firefly's dialogue style -- et voila! You've got a 'future quote'. Just remember: Kaylee's sunny, Jayne's gruff but (I think) secretly softhearted (loves his Mama), Simon's socially inept, etc. Check your quote by imagining the actor saying the line, in character, and you shouldn't go far wrong.

Check out the BlueSunroom for a pic of our new kittens Isis and Lassiter. Also, we recently got a half-grown goat who had never had a name before, so I named her Jayne Doe. ("doe" is the word for a female goat, btw) I should have named the baby goats after Firefly things, but I already had a theme picked out, so the three little doelings are named Curare, Strychnine, and Cyanide.
