I do however think that they put some addictive substance in KFC. You can go months and not think of it then suddenly be craving it...or maybe that's just me.

I'm with Jossisagod on this one, Freak Nation!
To be fair its been a while since I've seen either ep, but whilst the pilot was cool, it didn't grab me as much as it should have done. freak naion on the other hand was a GREAT series finale and made the fact that it was the last episode that much more painful

(so much so that I almost didnt watch Firefly on principle alone)

Not really. Understanding what’s going on in Freak Nation depends on watching at least some of Season two. Understanding what’s going on in the Pilot means watching the Pilot. And I like the grittier, more realistic tone of survival in a harsh world, more then the romantic and dramatic idea of liberation.

My gran and granddad are funny. Granddad is the oblivious sort, but who likes to tell tales and exagerrate a lot (he's big on "the old days")
and my grandma on the other hand is a gadget freak. She's always using her computer and loves her digital camera and all that
But a lot of the time you just gotta laugh along with them (technically its laughing "at" them, but that just sounds cruel)

For what its worth, all my geek knowledge is self taught too.
My parents, although cool enough to realise how great Star Wars is, are not geeks. I on the other hand, am probably the biggest geek. And I've managed to influence my younger sister with the same geeky traits
