Haven't seen a post on this but on the 4400's USA Network official site it states that the show has been cancelled. It is no more.
It came from a post on the board from Scott Peters so appears to be pretty official.
There is a petition to try and keep it going, if you are interested.

Word is that The Dead Zone may follow. Nothing official yet though.

That's two shows I like that won't/may not have a proper ending. I wish they'd allow at least a two hour movie to try and wrap the stories up a bit, get some kind of proper closure.

That sucks. The 4400 was just getting to a very interesting place at the end of last season.

Very dissapointing. Especially given the success of Heroes, which covers a lot of the same ground, but blatantly rips their stories off from old comics. At least The 4400 had an original take.

That really bums me out to hear that. That and BIG LOVE and ENTOURAGE were my only two summer series I actually watched. And while I wouldn't call HEROES a knock-off of THE 4400 (I think it's more a case of two similar shows running parallel of each other at the same time, like STUDIO 60 and 30 ROCK. Same idea, different approach), THE 4400 was getting really good at the end. Admittedly most of the 4th season was a bit of a wash, but that final episode really went above and beyond. And that ending, which was perfectly awesome in it's own right, is the second best use of "Where is My Mind" by The Pixies, with FIGHT CLUB obviously being the best one.

Maybe they can do what Joss did and maybe do a comic book miniseries that ties up all the loose ends.

I'm thinking more along the lines of a TV movie. I haven't kept up as much with The Dead Zone, but a two-hour movie could probably help tie-up the remaining loose ends with The 4400, if handled correctly.

As for the cancellation, it seems USA is vying for F*x's title. One show is bad enough, but both?

I thought the 4400 season finale could work perfectly well for a series finale. It implied a fair amount of resolution, IMHO.

Personally, I'll be glad if DZ is cancelled, too. This last year was the worst, at least as much of it as I could watch. They show started out being so good, but really lost it.

Personally I hope every show gets canceled. Then we might have a better chance of getting Firefly back, especially since Joss is sucking up to FOX again.

Confirmed: The 4400 and Dead Zone both canceled because "we need to give our new shows a platform to grow."

WTH does that mean?

No...did they? I was sure that this one would stick! There wasn't an actor on that show that I didn't like, and the stories and characters were great. I hope we get a miniseries/TV movie after that excellent finale. I'd hate to see it all just drift away.

I'm losing my optimism with television in general...it's like the networks are totally unaware that there are people who watch their shows. It seems like all their decisions are made from little offices that have no touch with the outside world, and they just get bored with certain shows.

Speaking of The 4400 and The Dead Zone...

...here are a couple of theories on the science of each show:

The 4400 -

Promicin interacts with a person's natural brainwide neurotransmitters, neuroelectrical pulses and the neuronal wiring in their cerebellum to cause the brain to create a special electromagnetic field that exist as a semi-sentient energy-based lifeform. The lifeform takes form as an inconspicuous energy pattern linked to the natural electromagnetic field of a person's body. Since the EM field lifeform permiates a person's entire body, it innately possesses an intrinsic understanding of all aspects of physiology (including DNA) to a degree that is beyond human comprehension. The semi-sentience of the EM field is tied into a person's own consciousness and as a result, its actions are based on the person's subconscious will. Because of this connection, the EM field takes signals from a promicin-positive's psyche, as well as their individual genetic structure, stress hormones, and immune system messengers to alter the person's physiology in a way that imbues them with a superhuman ability that might be useful to that particular promicin-positive in their daily life. As a result, every person develops a relatively unique superhuman ability after taking promicin and that ability is actually connected to their personality along with their inherent physiology and environment (both natural and social).

The Dead Zone -

In the laws of physics, there are four known fundamental forces. The four forces are: the electromagnetic force, the weak nuclear force, the strong nuclear force, and gravity. The strong nuclear force holds together positively charged protons and neutral neutrons in the nuclei of atoms. The weak nuclear force controls the radioactive decay of atoms. The other two forces can operate on larger scales. Electromagnetism attracts negatively charged electrons and positively charged protons to each other, creating atoms and molecules and all matter. Gravity governs all matter, drawing it together, creating the structure of every star system and the universe.

There also exist a fifth force, a quantum potential force field that pervades all space. This force acts on us at all times. It acts on every particle in every atom in our bodies. And on every particle in every atom in everything else in the universe. It surrounds us and penetrates us; it binds the universe together.

Every particle is accompanied and governed by a wave in this quantum potential field. This quantum potential wave is part of a physical force field, like a gravitational field, that affects the course of particles. This force does not decrease with distance, unlike other forces. A single quantum potential wave can control two entangled particles, no matter how far apart they go. So the quantum potential force violates both locality and independence. The quantum potential field conveys any change instantaneously over all of space because it carries information about the whole universe.

Simply put, the quantum potential field is a continuous field throughout the universe that acts instantaneously throughout the universe. It is not created by or concentrated around matter, unlike other forces. Although the quantum potential force guides particles, it is not generated by them. Unlike the other forces, the quantum potential has no known physical source.

Because the quantum potential force permeates all space and is not affected by distance, it in essence entangles or interconnects all particles. The universe is not a collection of objects, but a web of vibrating interconnected patterns governed by this quantum potential force. Just as space and time are interconnected as part of a space-time continuum, everything is connected as part of a single continuum. The entire universe is one single, complex entity. The whole universe is enfolded in everything and each thing is enfolded in the whole; and it is the quantum potential force that controls and connects all things.

Perhaps you should have said "a couple of theories on the pseudoscience of each show".
