What is a Dedicated Source Box?

I haven't the foggiest idea what a "dedicated source box" is and hope someone can enlighten me. I need to know before I write something stupid in a fic I'm working on.

I'm pretty sure it just meant that Simon got his own Cortex connection and didn't have to wait until his parents would let him use the family computer.
