Hmm. I'll have to be a 20 year old random girl caught in the middle of something way over her head. (though i'd prefer 30 year old something)
My characters ex-boyfriend is Alliance and was working on River at the Academy, and when I find out (nosing through his stuff), I quit my job that was supporting his university education, and leave him very fast, (before he alerts blue glove evils that someone else knows and must be eliminated.)
(Oh, but all this is shown in only a few short scenes.)
I get a ride on a ship... turns out to be the same place as Serenity's next job.
River knows who I am, goes crazy, then says Simon needs me to help her.
(I saw the papers about what the scientists did to her, so maybe I can access ex-boyfriends account...)
On Serenity I prove myself to be completely useless and pathetically unequiped for life in the black... (can't shoot a gun, drive a ship, or fix the ship, nor am I with money.)...
I do know a lot about dead languages, greek orthodoxi, and gardening.
Simon's got to convince the others (aka Mal) that I need to stay, meanwhile I'm trying to figure out how I'm supposed to help River at all...
I either help Simon and get dropped off at some nice planet, or shot (Crewman number 9!) Or somehow I prove myself useful and get permission to stay as the resident Greek Orthodox linguist, or become taken in as part of the family and learn how to shoot guns and drive ships. (Unlikely.)
So basically my character helps crack part of the River mystery, and stays completely unremarkable yet endearing enough to be kept on. (Hopefully.)
Oooh: i get into religious debates with Shephard and attempt to teach Jayne Spanish.

It's still there, waiting. (River on Shehpards hair.)

A Top Gun quote?? Hang your head in shame. Um .. of course .. I knew it was a Top Gun quote because um ... oh forget it.

I'd play the character that takes Kaylee away from that nancy boy Simon Tam.

Idea that popped into my head: Jayne has an older brother, who's even more of a badass. And big bad Jayne is scared to death of him. But for the duration of the episode you never see the brother do anything to indicate that he's anything but a nice guy, save through innuendo and very subtle hints here and there. So you're left at the end dying to know what Jayne knows that you don't. But you never find out. ;)

I'm a clown.
That's my sole defence.
Very few people will go out of their way to punish a clown.

Simon's arranged marriage from Osiris named Lucia (in other words the Simon with 2 X chromosomes). The marriage never happened though because of his fall from grace trying to save River. I book passage on Serenity and bitch slap him before he can get a word in edgewise (add another tick to your Simon-hit count folks!).

"If you're going to ruin my social standing Simon Tam, at least have the decency to take me with you. Here I brought these for you from home."

I would guesture irritatedly at a very large crate and sweep from the room. He opens the crate to find the majority of his really shiny vest collection that sadly he couldn't bring with him. He spends the rest of the day trying on all his old vests with the 'no, this is what going crazy feels like' look on his face and River dancing around singing "Did you see Lucia, Simon? Did you see the light?"

Needless to say Kaylee and I would bond over the dofusness of Simon, and hi-larity would ensue when Book actually thought that Simon 'saw the light'.
