Hey guys! Talk about an appropriate bar title! I'm going to try to post more this week. I'd hate for you all to forget who I am!

Gee - sorry to hear about the tubage. Sounds deeply unpleasant. As does chopping your toe open but you seem happy about that for some reason (guess pain is relative). I'll try to PM you tonight.

MSB - sorry you have a biter. I have a couple with anger management issues. It's not much fun. She's never tried to bite you has she?! I had to hand my class over to a sub today so that I could have an hour and a half of personal tuition on assertiveness training from a management consultant. I tried to see this as a possitive but it really felt like a bit of a waste (and also a bit of a character assassination too!). The lady was very nice but used to dealing with subtle ways to control reasonable adults and couldn't give me an answer as to what is the best way of stopping someone punching themselves until they bleed.

Hobbleit - so nice to hear from you again. What are you up to now you're a graduate? Are you working yet (or have I asked an impolite question?)

Hi. I have a temporary job at the minute. It'll do for now.

Don't worry, I'm the Queen of temp jobs. Woorked in various weird odd jobs for about 10 years off and on. Included working for a casino, a hospital, a prison, the police, as a 'scripted agent' for the post office and loads more!

Temp job workers untie! errr Unite!
Seems I have never worked directly for the people I am working for. Always a temp, never a direct hire. Except once. May that company never have a need for black ink. Crappy "customer service and SALES" position. Fix the issue then try to sell an angry customer more $#!t. Die DIE DIE!!!!!!
Love my current job though.

Mosh pit music: Four engines Burning(over the USA) by the Screaming Blue Messiahs
Master of Puppets - Metallica
Sweating Bullets - Megadeath
Open Arms - journey(ha tripped you up on that one, didn't I? Used to dedicate this lame song to EVERY girl I ever made a "feelings" tape for. I am such a loser! BTW, I like Journey, just not that song, anymore.)

HUGS Em oh the joy...teacher training...horrible pointless teacher training... Just endure. It's always so nice when those experts take time out of their busy schedule to tell us how things should be when they have absolutely no experience with it.
As for the one punching himself. I'd pull him out of class, let him know that you consider his behavior self mutilation and that you'll need to report this to his parents and a psychologist ( or whatever counseling system you have) trust me, he'll stop or he will get help ( if he's genuinely trying to harm himself)
Also you might try the yellow sticky. Take a post it and cut 3 slits to the midpoint. Place it on problem student's desk. Tell him " these are your 3 chances" If you disrupt I will tear off a strip, if you argue I'll tear off another. When you are out of strips you will lose your points for the day and I will call your parents ( or office referral or whatever punishment you want)" Then do it. First time the kid steps out of line, don't speak to or acknowledge him, just tear a strip. If he argues, tear another without comment.
I like to start by announcing to the class that I don't have time to waste on their behavior problems and I don't intend to. Then I put the yellow stickies on each kid's desk, explain the system, and start teaching. After the first 3 or 4 kids get sent out and punished, the rest figure it out... oh and I tell them they can save stickies for extra credit.

LOl that's actually one of my interventions for teachers who are nicer than I am... Mine have only 2 chances and the consequences are much nastier... they have to eat lunch with me instead of with their friends and things like that...giggle and of course I spend the whole lunch sympathizing with them about their bad choices and driving the nail home...
