We ran our first Neverwinter Nights Firefly game last Friday, and it...just...worked. Absolutely amazing. I sat afterwards, just stunned at how well it worked. It really almost felt like being a part of a Firefly episode! It was particularly appropriate that it happened at 9 pm eastern US time on a Friday, eh?

I've posted a mosaic of screenshots, as well as a Fanfic of the game log. I'll be running more sessions of the same game at NWCon, the online Neverwinter Nights gaming convention, this Friday and Saturday (4/16 and 4/17) night.

I've already had one player say he'll buy the DVD's - I'll hope for more. After all, that was the secret goal all along :)

As I've posted elsewhere, there's a Yahoo group for development of the system:
http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/fireflynwn/

if anyone's interested in helping. Or, if you have NWN (Neverwinter Nights, an online RPG gaming engine), head over to www.neverwinterconnections.com, and come join us!

Are you kidding me?!? Are you serious!?! This is amazing!!!

I know very little of the mechanics behind NWN, but I do play it. Are you actually coming up with.. what are they called... tilesets? Do you have guns? Different enviornemnts? Wow.... I've asked to join the Yahoo group, and I'm dieing to know what you've done.

Check out the screen caps posted in the Blue Sun Room. There is also a write up of the game so far.

Very cool so far.

Sure thing we did it. I myself am amazed :)

I just checked out fireflysims. Sounds like there's a lot of like-minded individuals out there!

As for the details, it only requires NWN Original - no expansions needed. I admit most of what I've done is compile other peoples' models - tilesets of deckplating-type interiors, asian-themed interiors/exteriors, drylands rural exteriors, etc., guns (lots of guns), body armor, clothing (browncoats!), etc. - and wrapped it into a coherent system. It's Traveller RPG-based for the rules, and dungeon master/referreed only for now. That means tabletop RPG-style games - real interaction with real NPC's (the more DM's the merrier! I ran solo last time, and it's tough to be three people at once :).

The whole goal was to take what RPG'ers like you do, and provide a graphical/ruleset interface for the genre. So enjoy!

Excellent work! I don't own the game so I can't play, but, it's great to know that there are people out there getting this kind of stuff going.

The NWN online convention, NWCon, is currently underway. In about an hour, I'll be running the first official session of NWN Firefly. It's already full, but there will be another tomorrow night (Saturday, 9 pm eastern US time).

So if you're a browncoat (who here isn't?), and you also happen to have NWN, sign up and join the other players as I take them out into the black! The link is:

Wish me luck, folks. I'm trying to spread the wonder that is Firefly among RPG'ers.

You're welcome to join late! We've got two players so far, is all (much fewer than the other two games, when we had a full boat). Head right over to www.neverwinterconnections.com today, and sign up (look for NWCon Highlight: Firefly - Hero of Canton). I'll check the registrations, even if you're late in signing up, so I can accept and get you the connection info.

Be sure to get the haks at www.nwvault.com - look for the Firefly module by Forrestwolf - it's got all the haks and such.

You'll also need to pregen your character with the module on your own computer - it won't let you make Firefly characters multiplayer (you have to import them).

Other players welcome! We could use a couple more...particularly bona-fide browncoats :)

Whew! Hope that makes sense.

I have applied (uh, I think).

I'm curious, though: why only Rogues? Not even Fighters?

Very exciting! I'm going to try to get off early, and get home ASAP. WHOOO!

Character ideas... character ideas... so, there are three players so far - is that right? What kind of characters are there already?

Three if we count you :) But 3-4 is perhaps BEST for a NWN game. Keeps the group together, which helps the poor stressed DM (imagine running your PBEM realtime :)

So far, we've got a browncoat captain who ran goods during the war in the same ship you'll be aboard. Not sure on the other registered player - he only just signed up.

We could use a mechanic, pilot, doctor, "steward" (read: security officer :), XO. Any of the above - some secondary skills in others, in case the crew is small (Mal and Zoe both have some medic skills, as a Firefly example).

Yes, only "Merchants" for now - but keep in mind that Merchants in Traveller are a pretty generic lot. It's because I'm using the Traveller Lite rules - they're free, and abridged (only Merchants). So if you're making something else, just take the appropriate skills and feats - you're a generalist onboard a trading ship, so you've got to know how to do a lot of things, and if you're a specialist, you're not as GOOD of one as someone onboard a larger ship.

I'll have more classes someday soon (I just bought the rules myself!) :)

Of course, rules don't really matter ALL that much in an RPG-oriented game...

See you tonight (and late is fine). I got your app, don't worry.
