At 46 I appear to be in the top age cohort on this site. The funny thing is, despite a definite expansion of the waist, a need for bifocals, and a few (heh) gray hairs, I'm basically the same perplexed geek I was at 17.

I have, at different times, been a baker, a janitor, a day-laborer, a tank driver, a clerk in a drug rehab center, a network administrator, a student, a graduate student, an ex-graduate student, an unemployed anthropologist (no unemployment benefits for that, believe me), and, God help me, a phone survey taker. At the moment I'm the father of a 5 and 3/4's year-old, and I do contract work for a certain rather large company in Redmond, Washington, which, I suspect, is attempting to take over the world even as we speak. I hope, someday, to be a published writer and maybe even a screenwriter, if my gorram writing partner (USC film school, so it figures) would ever get off his dead butt and finish his part of the project we've been working on...since before I had a child.

Maybe it's no wonder I'm tired....

Oh, bugger! Now I have to wait for someone to wake up!

im 17, an acoplished one at tha, im an idiot and i have so many options in diferent art directions, such as comic art/editing, theater, or film writing/directing/acting. so heres my advice 2 u youngins, follow your heart till the end, i am.

I'm currently 23. I've just finished up a BSc in astrophysics at the University of Oklahoma and will be in grad school in the same field in the fall. Fun fun, or something. ;)

Wow cool! I very nearly applied for an astrophysics degree next year at university. I'm 18 and hoping to take physics or theoretical physics or natural sciences at university next year in the UK, depending on where I go. I've had a few conditional offers but I'm not sure where I want to go yet, I'm hoping to get a revalation in the next few days.

I just left physics and moved into math. Life sometimes takes you in different directions

Mother once. Worked for the same Fortune 500 company (Blue Sun??!!) for 27 years.

I love the range of ages & backgrounds I read here. And it's so cool that we all have at least this one shiny thing in common.

Well, it sounds kinda cool, but it's really sorta boring. (=

Aside from my BSc, I'm also graduating with a minor in math. I'm only 3 classes away from a BA in Mathematics (standard). All three are relatively easy, but it really boils down to a question of money and whether or not I want to spend my summer before grad school working and taking all three of those classes at once, which I don't think I want to do, hehe.

Unfortunately, the astrophysics program here is really just an extension of the physics department, so I'm practically graduating with a degree in professional physics with emphasis in astrophysics.

If I had it all over to do again, I'd probably go with aerospace or electrical engineering. Well, that or attend a different university where astrophysics was a bit more established and offered more than a couple of courses into the technical aspects of astronomy (i.e., more hands on experience in observational methods, data analysis and reduction, etc.).

Overall though, I've enjoyed the physics classes I've taken here. Solving problems is infinitely better (in my opinion ;) to writing essays for "non-physics" related classes. (=

I'm 21 and am currently working as a secretary, but I'll be starting college in about two months. I'm going for an English major, but that could change a couple of times while I'm there.
