Time for stupid obersavations!

Eight months sure is a popular timeframe in the 'verse. For example:

BDM:

Mal says Simon & River have been on eight months.

Operative states that eight months ago Simon rescued River.

Train Job:

Inara states she's been on Serenity for eight months.

Sherriff Bourne states that Joey Bloggs ate his own gun about eight months ago.

Wait! Inara must've either killed Bloggs or broke his heart and he killed himself.

This must be her deep dark secret!

But seriously, why all the eight months references? It's probably nothing but does seem a bit odd.

"Month" is a vestigial mode of time measurement. Based on solar cycles. Not applicable.

River says so.

River says so is the best answer for most all in the 'verse, really.

18 months since KayLee had something betwixt her nethers 'twasn't run on batteries. That seems waaay more memorable than 8. And Mal can't know that.

Because 8 is the infinty symbol stood on end, so therefore can represent any amount of time. Or Joss just has something for the number 8. It's not quite a year, but longer than half a year, so it implies a long time time without the dust and cobwebs.

Seems to be a common theme in all his works. Just caught one in Angel/Buffy- Faith's coma lasted for 8 months.

And I just read in the Serenity (episode) script that Simon finished his internship in 8 months.

Weird. Irrelevant, but weird.

Asian cultures favor numerology, and 8 is good luck.
One might note that this verse is a melding of USA and China cultures.
