I'm sorry, I forgot another one of MY list stipulations... Ass kicking strong, So no "strong willed" women ....take your Molly Pitchers and Harriet Beecher Stowes and cram them. You can feel free to add them to your lists, but all I'm saying is that Leeloo would kick Sylvia Plaths teeth out.

In the firefly the only woman who is not a fetish is Zoe. (River was not either, but well the BDM changed that.) In Angel/BtVS are there any strong characters that are NOT fetishes?
I'll disagree that Zoe's the only non-fetish character in the series.
Movie-wise, I'll agree that all of them but Zoe were painfully reduced to images. But in the series, I'd disagree.
Inara has a strong character - not the ass-kicking type but definitely not a mere pretty face in a "whore with a heart of gold" role. She has integrity in spades and a sense of independence that's inspiring.
River, we seem to be in agreement about.
Kaylee, too, has more than one angle going for her and one hell of a potential journey basically jumping off the screen, although it's easier to reduce her. Of all the characters, she was the most short-changed, it seems, in terms of developing her immense potential.
So.. the movie does abad job, but I wouldn't put down the series.
