I need a little advice. Can anyone give me some hints for how to write Zoe. I just can't seem to figure it out.

Zoe is all about loyalty, honor and confidence.

She is so confident of her abilities, potential and beauty, she has become relaxed and mellow about it. She doesn't have to flaunt any of it - that's how confident she is.

Her background is a mystery but we know she had an education. 'Sanguine' isn't a word that just anyone tosses out to the 'verse.

Of all the characters, she is my favorite.

Joss Whedon has said that Firefly was as much about 'Grapes of Wrath' as 'Stagecoach', so think about Ma Joad. Consider "We'll be alright, as long as the men don't break". What happens for me then is that Zoe's stares at Malcolm aren't dog-like devotion, they become the devoted assessment that parents give children at moments of crisis, ready to act if necessary but ready to give space to creativity in others.

I am happy to concede that Gina Torres has a face that is an editor's dream, cut it in wherever you like and the viewer will project whatever is appropriate - to them; that's not to diminish the actor's ability, it's a skill as well as a gift.

So I suppose my answer to your question is that you don't write Zoe. Zoe is the story. If you have a strong story you have Zoe. If Zoe is missing, consider another story.

BTW I always come up as Zoe in the character questionaire. :o)
