i have to confess that I'm two chapters from the end of the thing I've been posting -- they're written and I'm dying for some commentary love. It all dates from just after the moment Haken has a backup for -- ie October 15 2007.

I'll post it in the correct order -- just as soon as Haken finishes fumigating in there.

Ah, gose!
Everything's gone.....I have no more masters, since I stupidly dumped them.
gose!

Haken, this is a wave and a thank you for simply being there in the first place..I've not had a full chance to read all the replies yet, but I am. And I'm hoping some good will come of this, but right now I'm a tad heartbroken to see my work gone.

It all makes sense now. I was searching for an hour for a story I wanted to re-read and had no luck. Guess this explains it. I was also wondering when all these porn sites got linked to BSR. I was wondering if we were under new management. Thanks for the effort to keep us flying.
p.s. I have had a couple of anti-virus warnings while surfing the site. So I guess there is some lingering maliciousness.

What with the BSR being hacked and all, I'd like to mention a new site I've been working on:

http://www.thesignalgoesfurther.com

It is, after a fashion, a Firefly preservation project. Built by me, and produced by FollowMal. Its purpose, when we set out to build it, was primarily to preserve Firefly art. The site, though operational, is actually not fully completed yet. Reason I mention it now, though, is because one of the major (finished) sections is the "BSR Thumbnail Viewer," a daily updated, viewable archive of the fireflyfans Blue Sun Room art. Now that the BSR is hacked, I'm thinking the time is right to go public with it, even if it's not entirely finished.

All artwork appears in thumbnail format, and has been collected with the knowledge and express permission of Haken. The archive contains every bit of art ever published in the BSR (it dates back to 2003-10-29). As per our agreemeent with Haken -- to which we will strictly adhere -- we will ONLY show you the google-sized thumbnails (150x150). Worst case scenario? I will give Haken our database, and whatever images are still missing, so the BSR can be repopulated again (minus ratings and user comments, alas: I did not collect those). So, don't be asking us for full-size images: we will NOT give those out: this quadrant we play nice; got enemies enough as it is. :)

I am, however. still counting on the the fact that Haken's hosting company will find a decent backup tape in the foreseeable future (I mean, it's unimaginable their backups are bad a full year back, right?), and he'll be able to rebuild things his own self -- as he's been doing competently for the last few years. :) Either way, we'll rise again! In the meantime, if you're looking for some sweet reminiscence, feel free to visit our new site.

You can also archive this site with the Wayback Machine at www.Archive.org, but it takes 6 months for them to get around to it.

I've learned the hard way to always keep copies of important posts on any forum, in case of total crash, temp censorship, typo deletions or sites closing down.

All kinds of fun and games wiping out the internet these days. Limewire and other "filesharing" sites are under severe hack attack from the professionals at mega corporations, thanks to backdoors by Microsoft.

Comcast now throttles its broadband customers who dare use Myspace, Youtube or Google Video ("filesharing"), reducing their 6MB/sec service down to 10KB/sec when surfing those sites. Comcast also got caught censoring its custoemrs email in realtime, and is currently sued in class action for stealing from all its TV customers.

Is FFF under Chinese hack attack, like Firefly was banned and censored before its first episode, by Fox, which was owned by Communist China since 1999? I always suspected the Chinese hated Joss for exposing the merger of USA with China, led by Walmart.

"US ports owned by Commie China is good for me."
"Dead and disabled US soldiers are good for me."

If you would like to find them and reload them (when safe), you should try searching through Google's cache for a unique phrase from your story.
For example, typing "site: http://www.fireflyfans.net/sunroomitem.asp mal llama" calls up all the fics from the BSR with the words "llama" and "Mal". If you select the *Cached* option below an entry, it calls up the old version of the webpage, which is somehow still available. I don't know that much about teh internets, but I've found hundreds of webpage "ghosts" that way (including my favorite BSR fics which have since been lost).

Kudos to you on restoring everything so far up until May of this year!

Can we still hold out hope that you'll be able to restore anything from June - Nov of this year as well?
