Blowin' smoke offa my fingertips BUMP!
Just finished postin' a wave to not quite 100 Yahoo Firefly groups about tomorrow's resumption of votin' on TV Vote. Some highlights:
"Time is running short; once the site re-opens at 7:00am ET tomorrow morning, Saturday, October 20, there is now an end in sight to the poll.
In August, we reached #1 in the poll, and, have been steadily drawing away from the rest of the pack. As of Friday, October 12, we beat Xena's all-time record for consecutive days at 1,000+ votes/day, with 74 days, and, going strong to extend our record.
That same day, as some of you may already know, TV Vote was shut down for about a week, due to cheating issues (not, thankfully, involving Firefly voters!).
Well, Rich Labonte has announced that TV Vote will open again, tomorrow.
However...
Rich has declared his intention, at this point, to continue with TV Vote until 5,000,000 votes have been cast in the Top 40.
<<[I went with the least optimistic interpretation of what Rich has told us; nothin' like a good deadline to motivate folks!]
4,612,636 votes were counted as of 10/12/07; not sure how many votes got through or were counted, subsequent to that, before Rich locked the site down. That leaves 387,364 uncast votes, +/-.
Just using the last counted day's total votes ('cause I'm too lazy to work up a daily average for the previous week =^[.]~=), 12,658, as a divisor, that leaves just over 30 remaining voting days, once voting resumes. That's 30 days to reach 500k.
At last count, we were 63,286 votes short of 500k. You do the math. Actually, I'll do the math: That would require us to get at least an average 2,110 votes each of the remaining 30 days. The last day votes were counted, Firefly got 1,263 votes, about our running average.
So, let's go out with a bang! Meanwhile, if you know ANY Browncoats who have voted but stopped, 'cause there was no end in sight, or, who have never voted, let 'em know we're
gonna need 'em, this weekend, to keep our record-breaking streak alive, and, to pack in as many votes as we can in the time remaining!
P.S.: Since it is now a matter of remaining, available votes, the time has come at which it would be prudent, for the benefit of Firefly, to consider paring down or eliminating other shows from our voting lists. The more votes we save, the longer we can vote for Firefly. This is for 500k, something no other show has ever accomplished!"
I also mentioned Flyvote, of course, and, my handy Timex travel clock.
Of particular note is that P.S.; There is now a finite pool of votes, based on this interpretation. This is for all the marbles, so, we need to be greedy for Firefly. Startin' tomorrow ONLY Firefly gets any more of my Top 40 votes, though I'll still be nominating Dark Shadows in the lower poll.
Also interesting, is that, some of the Yahoo Firefly groups I Waved had upwards of 300, 400, and, even more members. One had 647 members, another had over /1200/!! That group could carry Firefly on TV Vote to 500k on their own, if each member voted twice per day.
Anyway, let's hope everyone is out of the gates runnin' hard, tomorrow; I want us to keep our 1k/day streak goin'!

at what point does a hiatus thread become a hernia thread????

I'd reckon it depends on your definition of hiatus and hernia. For example:
*spoiler for BDM:
Select to view spoiler:
As we who have watched the BDM know, Wash defines interesting as "Oh God, Oh God, we're all gonna die". So, whenever anyone says "that's interesting" or something similar, I say "We're gonna explode? I don't wanna explode"; whereas someone who did not would say "that's cool" or something similar.
So it all depends on how you define things.
