Much as I love Jewel, let's not get all depressed, here. This is what she said:

"Okay, okay, okay: Lets address these Serenity 2 rumors before anything else. I have no idea what you people are talking about! Seems to me someone (with a name that starts with A and ends in LAN) said something in an interview that was misconstrued as the sequel being greenlit, which is not the case at the moment. No one, not even the most ridiculously optimistic, has ever said they thought what Alan meant was that Universal (or, anyone else) had greenlighted a sequel.

Pretty much, Jewel's NOT Joss.

So, I'm still waiting to hear from HIM about the rumors about Universal /being interested in/ a sequel, as expressed by Alan in the original interview.

Hang in there, folks. This is far from over.

I don't think it's an elaborate practical joke.
I think that Alan and Nathan and Jewel are very aware of how BC's hang on their every word and put hope where hope can be found.

I think sincerely that Alan is saying basically what Joss said in the interviews at ComicCon. The DVD's have sold well, their continued good sales mean that Universal might be tempted to take another look at the franchise, therefore buy lots of CE DVD's. The cast is still interested as well. ( That's very heartening! ) Now's the time.

So what this means more than anything else is that we need to increase our numbers by sharing Firefly/Serenity with folks. We need to purchase the DVD's in great numbers and also official merchandise so that they know we're out here and have money to spend and still love FF/S enough to do so.

Guerrilla marketing is good too. 11th Hour has been all around the 'Verse lately encouraging us to do so. There are her flyers and the bookmarks she so graciously made recently that will help spread the word in a way that may reach beyond our immediate fandom.
She posted on Whedonesque about the buzz that is occurring and how we need to encourage it some more.

The holidays are coming...maybe we need to have another fandom wide DVD buy day.

Alan wouldn't do that. Period. I'm not sure, of course, what Nathan based his comments to Alan on; could just be that Universal let on that Serenity 2 -- well, lol, just as Alan was caught putting it -- is not an impossibility. :) And that the numbers looked interesting. Define 'interesting'? I dunno. Joss is the man; we'll have to hear from him. According to Jewel, at least, a sequel is not in the immediate future (and it is unthinkable she'd be left out of the loop on news of such magnitude). But only two weeks ago Serenity II had no future at all. Today it has. Now, I'm not going to do the whole "That's not much... It's enough" routine. Oh wait, yes I am! :)

As someone and many of the people of this website have pointed out, Joss hasn’t come out and said “NO! Bad Alan for raising fans hopes! There will be no sequel!”

Until he comes out and says something along those lines, we have to hope or get our shotguns out and nudge Universal into moving into ‘Sequel Mode’.

We sleep soundly in our beds because rough men stand ready in the night to visit those who would do us harm.

I was actually being sarcastic. I know blame goes no where, and that Alan was only talking about the possibility of a sequel the first time he was quoted. I should have indicated it in my first post that there was sarcasm involved in my words. I'm sorry!
