i remember in college i lead the art team to do the models and animation (included a few penguins) for a game another group of students had to do as a project. the models turned out ok, but gods the controls sucked.

What boggles me most is that in almost all instances of bad controls the right way to do it isn't any harder to implement. Usually it's easier.
