I'm Canadian (Joss has probably moved on if it is really him so he probably wont have read this. This starting the debate of will he ever come here again)

"Flan" was originally coined by Nathan Fillion when in an interview he stumbled on "firefly fan" and said "firefly FLAN" instead. It kinda caught on after that. So Flan and browncoat are interchangeable.
