Epiktetos dismantled his gun to bits and proceeded to clean it methodically. The gorram thing was clogged up so tight (it had taken a lengthy mudbath over the course of his recent endeavors) it would probably have blown his hand right off had he been stupid enough to fire it. Jake Wolfe hadn't seem to notice. "Never been one to shy away from the odd risk," he thought with a smug grin. He viewed himself as an aptly brained individual. Outsmarting the ones he couldn't outrun, such was his way. But he was most grateful for his good fortune. When his wits faltered, she never let him down.

Jake sidles in from the cargo bay, and finds Epiktetos feild stripping and cleaning his gun. Walking over to the table, he sits down and quickly breaks down his two new pistols, then, reaching over Epiktetos, he goes to grab a cleaning rag...

John sat in the galley with a cup of tea in his hand. Wolfe was lucky. On a bad day he wouldn't have saved him. Mal walked into the galley. "Some group of people you let on my boat."
"Yeah, you said we had work?"
"Yes and its not work I'm keen on doin"
"What is it?"
"Cargo steal, from a smal rebel Independent group still working on Jezebel"
"Wait were stealing for the Alliance"
"Yep pays well"
"All righty then, honest work, how odd"

"Yeah," Epiktetos answered dubiously.
His mind was racing. "Juh shi suh mo go dohng shee? Are these people completely insane?"
"Okay, I give up," he said as he stood up. "This thing's beyond repairs." And I need to have a little chat with the people in charge, he thought as he hurried himself across the room and up the stairs.

Jake grins at Epiktetos' speedy get away then slides the parts of his pistol over to him, casting a critical eye over the piece.
Hmmmm... yeah, truely humped up, this piece is... He thinks to himself as he mindlessly finishes cleaning the guns and putting them back togather, al-the-while looking over Epiktetos' pistol.
OOC: Yeah, blindly putting the pistols back togather...

Epiktetos stood inside what looked like an engine room. "Not where I wanna be," he thought. "How did I get here?"
"What are you doing here?" a female voice asked from behind him, jolting him out of his reverie. "Whoa! You startled me there!" he started as he spun around in a hurry. "I guess I got huh... lost. I'm looking for the local bigwigs." The woman crossed her arms against her chest and eyed him doubtfully. "No... I mean, what are you doing on this ship!"
— "Just a passenger," he said bluntly "No games with this one, silly."
— "Huh huh." Her hand hovered toward her hip holster...
— "Hey! Easy now," he said hastily.
She seized the handgrip of her weapon and unholstered it, unveiling a sawed-off lever action carbine. His mouth dried up at the sight. Time to play a wild card! "No call to flare up! Your psychic buddy said I was okay!" The woman froze, and hesitantly drew her piece back."My what?"
— "You know, tall guy, brown hair..." he said as his demeanor shifted back to his usual goofiness.
— "I get the picture. If it's the captain you're looking for, he's right there in the dinning area," she said, pointing a finger toward the doorway.
— "Thanks, that's real helpful of you." She gave him a stony glare that invited no answer. He promptly turned back and left the room.
"What did I get myself into?"

Having finished cleaning his weapons, Jake once again sticks them in the back of his pants Need to get a shoulder rig... good way of loosing a cheek this way... and heads in to the kitchen, his body growling with hunger.
Steping over the door frame, Jake quitely made his way over to the stove, keeping an eye on the sandy haired older man sitting at the table, cleaning his pistol. Grabbing a plate of stir fryed protien, Jake heads over to the table, purposely announcing his presence by clearing his throat.
"Bwaha!" The guy shouts, swinging his piece around to aim at Jakes face and asking, in a strained voice "What are you doing on my boat, I don't take kindly to stow-aways."
Jake just raises one eyebrow, sits down, and begins to eat, mumbaling a "I'm not a stow away," to the man "And I'd take it as a kindness if you were to point that away from my face... it isn't even loaded, so there isn't much you'd be able to do to me with it..."
The sandy haired guy just blinks, HARD, at Jake "Uh huh... and you'd know this because...?"
Jake holds out a handfull of bullets, while still eating.
The man blinks again "...huh"

John could not believe he was actually going to do this. He should have followed his gut and not let either of those two on board. He needed advice and a third party. She could help everyone else on the ship, except Mal of course, why couldn't she help him.
He raised his hand and knocked twice on the shuttle door.
"Jin" a woman said on the other side. He took a breath and walked inside.
"Inara can I talk to you?" he said shakily.

Epiktetos peeked into the dining area. Two men were sitting at the table, minding their respective business. "Captain? Any captain here?" he called.
The taller man dropped what he was doing and gave him an irritated look. "Right here! I'm Captain Reynolds. Who the hell are you?"
—"Just a passenger..." Epiktetos paused as the man clenched his jaws. Is he going to draw on me too? No? Lovely. "I understand that you just picked up a few."
—"I'm startin' to understand that my own self," the man said warily.
—"May I?" The man shrugged and gestured him to a chair. "Sure, have a seat." Epiktetos made a move toward the table but stopped dead as he caught sight of Jake Wolfe devouring a plate of protein. "Jake Wolfe," he said with a tip of an imaginary hat. "Graceful, as always."
— "Wait now," the captain said. "You guys know each other?" Epiktetos chuckled, seemingly amused. "Barely," he replied. "May I say, it's mighty selfless of you to shelter him on your boat like that."
— "Whoa... wh... What do you mean?" Reynolds murmured tentatively.
Epiktetos gave the man a feral grin. "You mean... You don't know?"
— "No! I don't! Now tell me! Is this guy trouble?"
— "That's one hell of a question to ask!" Epiktetos said thoughtfully. "Myself, I'm not overly infatuated with the prospect of spending an undetermined amount of time in the vicinity of a psychotic, delusional, remorseless runaway killing machine..."
"JOHN!" Reynolds roared as he stormed out of the room.

"Did you really have to drive the captain that... crazy this soon?" Jake asks, still smirking. "Thanks," he said as he accepted the bowl. He began to eat double-quick. "Makes a fine hiding place for government fugitives, though," he uttered through a mouthful.
He glanced around, seemingly to make sure no one was eardropping, then leaned forward and lowered his voice to a whisper. "For real, now," he said, his tone dead serious. "Why do you think they took us aboard? I say we have something they need. 'Could be they're after the prices on our heads, but I don't see it. Unless your worth gunning down a fed squad for? Nevermind that. My point is: We need to find out who we're dealing with. Now, I'm gonna ask around, try to figure out what these people are in for. You, you go sniffin' for potential clues but keep it quiet. Pinpoint potential threats and work out their weak spots." He leaned closer. "And watch out for buddy-boy, he's an empath." Pain's Bunk
It felt empty without her there. He missed waking up and seeing her laying next to him. He missed her warmth, her touch, the way she made him feel.
Pain laid in his bed staring up at the ceiling. They had decided to end it, he knew it, but he still missed her. Still wanted her beside him.
Getting up, Pain stretched his muscles, then said to himself "Been a while since I hit the bench. Think I'll go do that then."
Opening the hatch and climbing out of his bunk, Pain made his way towards the Cargo Bay to lift some weights.

"Look, huh... Sorry for freaking out earlier. I got hit in the head and this "guy" just showed up... Call it a survival reflex." The girl nodded understandingly. "No, it's okay," she said. "We get that a lot," she added nervously. Epiktetos scratched the back of his head and looked away. "So hum... Kaylee, right? What is it you do? On the ship?" Your doing great, keep it up
— "Me? I guess I... Pretty much hold her together! Keep her in the air," she answered with a speck of pride.
— "You're the mechanic? Ai yah tien ah! That's one mighty burdensome piece of work! You carry it out all by yourself?"
— "Well... Yeah!"
Epiktetos was genuinely astonished. "That's... Impressive!" he stammered.
— "Thanks! How about you? Is it your first tour out in the Black?" she asked as she was quickly loosening up.
— "Hardly. I've been jumpin' from one ship to the other for... 'least a few years now. Mostly cargo freighters, or something near enough."
— "Yeah? But you seem so... young!" He chuckled at that. "You're one to talk!"
— "See? That's classic teenage wit!" she replied with a waggish grin. She gestured at something behind her. "Look, I'm kind of in the middle of something right now, so, is there anything you..."

Bella was wandering around her new home, almost unable to contain her excitement. This was what she had been waiting for, dreaming for, ever since she could remember. She still couldn't quite believe it.
As she walked, she spotted the man from earlier, the one she had run into. Then, she hadn't gotten a chance to apologize for it, but now she had the time.

One cheery mechanic, a pair of monstrous gunmen, a trigger happy ex-browncoat lady, a priggish doctor, a clueless captain, and, to top it all off, not one, but TWO telepaths, one of whom just happened to be the ship's pilot. *Having finally finished eating his fill on a real, cooked meal, Jake finds his way back from the showers, hair still damp and tousled, but trimmed down a bit, and his stubble shaved clean. He is wearing the pants that he came aboard with (cleaned now), and has the towel about his shoulders as he wanders the ship. He isn't wearing any boots and makes hardly any sound as he begins taking in all the sounds and scents of his new surrounding, and putting them away in the back of his mind for future referance. Heading down to the cargo bay, he bumps into the big guy whos pistol he had borrowed earlier.*

Others have made that mistake before you and they paid for it. Now, you gonna rat me out or not?" That seemed to get through, somewhat. "I won't need to," she said.

"I won't need to." What could that possibly mean? Could be he was about to get tossed out the airlock. That, or she was just playing some warped mind games. Either way, a bit of extra caution wouldn't hurt. "Or maybe I ought to grab the bull by the horns, as they say..." Telepaths were unstable people at best, but he knew better than to downplay their abilities. "Okay, this is a simple one if we do it right. The cargo we're stealin is goin to be wrapped up nice for us. We'll find it in their shipping bay, they plan to send it off in a couple of days." The captain began adressing the crew. "Zoe, Jayne, John, River and you two," he indicated Epiktetos and Wolfe, " Will come and get the goods. It's heavy stuff so we'll need enough people to carry it and John and River in case things get hairy. Pain you guard the ship. I don't think we'll have any trouble but you have to be safe."

John grabbed two pistols from the small cade behind his bed and holstered them. He was thrilled that finally they'd be working again. But a nagging thought preyed at him. Something always went slightly wrong and he couldn't help but wonder what it would be next time. He was worried, also, about the two new men on the boat. He could trust the one a little, but the other he only let on as a favor and would rather he got off. The ship shuddered as it hit atmo. He pushed his fears to the back of his mind and walked to the cargo bay.

Pain's Bunk
You woke up this morning
Got yourself a gun,
Mama always said you'd be
The Chosen One.
Pain stood in front of his weapons' locker, surpised that Jayne hadn't looted it when he left. Pain held his .44 semis in his hands, making sure they were loaded before strapping them into his leg holsters.
She said: You're one in a million
You've got to burn to shine,
But you were born under a bad sign,
With a blue moon in your eyes.
After his pistols were secured he reached into his locker and took out his assualt rifle. He checked the 30 round mag before slapping it back in and chambering a round. Next Pain loaded a grenade into the grenade launcher underneath. He knew it was overkill, but it was better to play it safe rather than sorry. With that covered, Pain made sure he had extra grenades in the grenade pouch on his belt, before shoving a half dozen extra mags for his rifle into his dusters' pockets.
You woke up this morning
All the love has gone,
Your Papa never told you
About right and wrong.
Before leaving Pain took the double shoulder rig out of his locker, closing the door afterwards. Giving himself the once over, Pain decided that he was ready and left his bunk, slinging the shoulder rig over his shoulder.
But you're looking good, baby,
I believe you're feeling fine, (shame about it),
Born under a bad sign
With a blue moon in your eyes.
Not spotting the little man who needed the rig, Pain headed down towards the Cargo Bay, his assualt rifle concealed under his duster ready for action.
Cargo Bay
You woke up this morning
The world turned upside down,
Thing's ain't been the same
Since the Blues walked into town.
Jayne saw Pain enter the Cargo Bay and said "Got enough weapons on ya, Pain?"
Pain raised an eyebrow at Jayne and replied "Do you?"
"Ya bet yer pigu I do." replied Jayne.
"Good then." replied Pain, taking the shoulder rig off his shoulder.
"So who's that for?" asked Jayne, eyeing the rig.
"The little guy who likes to knock over big mercs from behind. I think he might be behind you" replied Pain, smirking at Jayne as the other big merc looked behind him.
"Ha ha. Very funny, wise ass." replied Jayne sarcastically.
Pain gave Jayne a breif smile before his face returned to being serious. Bad things were about to go down and Pain knew it.
But you're one in a million
You've got that shotgun shine.

"Good!" Epiktetos said. He was just about ready to turn around and leave the room when an odd thought struck him. "Oh yeah, one more thing. Is there a functional shower setup on board?"
Roughly twenty minutes later he was all clean and steamy. He wiped the moisture from the mirror and gave himself a long hard look. "Apart from that vividly purple cheekbone, you don't look half bad," he thought. He gave a mental shrug and moved his gaze toward the crumpled rags that lay scattered on the damp floor. "These sure need some dry cleaning..." He fastened a towel around his waist and crammed his worn out clothes in a ball under his right arm as he went looking for the laundry room.

Jake drops down quietly from the chains in the cargo bay between the two mercinaries. Snagging the shoulder ring off of Pain, he asks "So... who are you two looking for..." as he slides the pistols into the holster. "Hello? Anyone?" Epiktetos had been roaming all over the ship for a irritatingly large amount of time and his patience was growing short. Where the hell's the freakin' laundry? Do they even have one? "Helloooo?" And, apparently, most of the crew had already gone off ship. Darn... He let out an exasperated sigh and reluctantly donned his pants. "Gorram captain's a total Sha Gua. He goes out and takes all his gunslingers along, leaving a bunch of greenhorns and a wanted criminal to guard his ship. Gao guhn! I could take'em all out without thinkin'. Too bad I ain't got nobody to fly the damn thing..." He ditched the towel and resumed his search.

A little palaver between Epiktetos and his imaginary friend ensued...
"You really thinkin' about snatching this ship?"

Don't be silly. I'm you, remember?
— "Then what's your point?"
How can you even consider it? These people bailed you out of a world of trouble! Literally!

"Well so do you, dumbass. Otherwise we wouldn't be having this conversation."

"What else is new?"

Epiketos drew his six shooter and gave it a fond look. The stuff Kaylee had given him proved to be potent, as he had managed to scrub away most of the sticky. It was a rather sizable piece, around twelve inches in length. It featured a extended barrel and a reinforced handgrip as well as a matte black finish. It was a threatening sight, and he had grown somewhat attached to it over the years. "I remember at first I was barely able to lift it with both arms..." He smiled as he reminisced. It sure was a relief to have it back in working order, especially considering the crowd he had fallen into. The one that got your helpless pe-gu off Persephone... He sighed. The unearthly voice had a point. He was indebted to these people. He'd have to make it up to them, sometime. "But first, I need to find me shirt," he said under his breath.

Is it OK to bump an RP thread?
OOC: I've been going through some older LoS threads tonight and I dug up an interesting idea. Oath, if I remember correctly, had suggested the implementation of a cast list in order to "help the 'visualizing' of our characters." Although the idea didn't get an awful lot of support the first time around, I'm gonna bring it up again because I've seen this done on other online RP boards and I think it really helps make the characters less anonynous. Only, I think we shouldn't limit ourselves to actors, and really pick any face we deem suitable. Professional athletes, famous musicians, your neighbor's nephew... whatever, as long as we can put faces on all these shiny names

I believe I had John Cena playing the role of Pain.
Pain wanted to get in some hurt, but with eight armed goons with their guns aimed at him and the others, the stakes were just a little too high for his tastes. That and Pain really wasn't in the mood to get shot at. So there he was standing in the Cargo Bay watching and waiting for something bad to go down.

"What the HELL makes you say that, John. Why would I want to be part of a crew that has flags on the Cortex every Gorram week. And For your information, John, yes I am one of them, last you checked my family was more Alliance friendly. And as you said, you don't know my story so back off. And, it's a nice coat." The guy that had helped her out in the fight before was laying on the ground with, aparently, a bullet wound, but Doc could tell was faking the pain, and was ready for action.
Don't thhink of it as being out numbered, think of it as having a wide target selection.
